GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Communications and Digital Media Organizer will lead communications, digital organizing, and public engagement efforts for the Freight Communities Action Coalition, a regional coalition of over 12 community and environmental groups in the western Inland Empire. The specialist develops and implements communications strategies that educate the public, mobilize community participation, amplify coalition campaigns, and advance policy objectives related to freight movement, truck routes, environmental justice, and community advocacy throughout the Inland Empire.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Develop and implement strategic communications plans supporting the Freight Community, Action Coalition's education, engagement, and policy initiatives.
- Manage and grow coalition social media platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
- Create compelling content including videography, photography, social media posts, media advisories, and educational materials.
- Develop messaging and public education campaigns focused on AB 98 truck route implementation, air quality, land-use planning, and environmental justice.
- Coordinate digital organizing efforts to mobilize residents, community leaders, advocates, and coalition partners to participate in public hearings, workshops, and community actions
- Produce and edit video content highlighting community impacts, coalition victories, public policy developments, and grassroots advocacy efforts.
- Collaborate with coalition partners, environmental justice organizations, and community stakeholders to coordinate messaging and strengthen public engagement.
- Join monthly Pitzer Brand Champions meetings (Last Thursday of each month)
- Maintain coalition branding, messaging consistency, and digital presence across all
- communications platforms.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
The individual must possess knowledge, skills and ability to be able to successfully perform the essential functions of the position or be able to explain or demonstrate how the essential functions will be performed, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
- Demonstrated experience in communications, digital media, advocacy campaigns, public affairs, social media management, and/or community engagement.
- Editing, storytelling, and strategic messaging skills.
- Experience creating communications materials for public education initiatives, and community organizing efforts.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing priorities.
- Strong interpersonal skills and experience working with coalitions, community organizations, public agencies, and advocacy groups.
- Proficiency with Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, social media analytics tools, and digital communications platforms.
- Bilingual English and Spanish communication skills preferred.
- Commitment to environmental justice, community empowerment, public health, and equitable land-use policies.
- Proficiency in videography, photography, video editing, and digital media production.
- Strong leadership and collaboration skills with a commitment to a team-based work environment.
- Natural aptitude for technology and expertise with MS Office, including expert level use of Excel.
- Ability to problem-solve and use analytical skills to develop and implement creative solutions.
- Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and attention to detail.

Experience/Education: Associate’s Degree preferred in Communications/Marketing or a relevant field preferred but not required (e.g., digital strategist, community manager, digital marketing). It is desirable to have understanding of freight policy, environmental justice, transportation planning, public health, and/or land-use policy issues. Experience managing multi-platform social media campaigns and audience engagement
strategies.
Licenses/Certifications: Must have a valid driver’s license and a driving record acceptable to the College’s automobile insurance

Work Schedule: This is a temporary, full-time, non-exempt staff position working from November 1st, 2026 up to March 27th, 2026. The regular schedule for this position is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Hours may vary depending on the operational needs of the College or department, including evenings and weekends as required.
Compensation: Budget Salary Range: $31.00-$33.00 per hour

Reporting Definitions
- Campus Security Authority Reporter (CSA): Employees responsible for reporting crimes that are disclosed to them, so that crime statistics reporting is as accurate as possible.
- Federal Educational Rights and Privacy Act Reporter (FERPA): Employees with access to student records and information must adhere to the privacy protection requirements under FERPA, which restricts what student information may be disclosed and to whom.
