The Strategic Portfolio Management Analyst is responsible for Molecular Devices’ yearly strategy process, strategic portfolio management and execution of cross-business strategic initiatives. The role combines structured analysis, cross-functional coordination and Daily Management to translate strategic priorities into clear initiatives, measurable actions and sustained execution. This position is well suited for an individual with strong analytical capabilities who wants broad exposure to the industry and enterprise-level decision-making.
This position reports to the Director of Product Management and is part of the Product Management organization, working closely with Finance, R&D, Commercial, Scientific Applications, and Marketing, located in San Jose, CA, and will be an on-site role.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
- Support the annual strategy process through situational analysis, strategic priority development, workshop preparation, leadership reviews, and concise, executive-ready materials that translate complex information into clear insights, choices, and recommendations.
- Partner with Finance and business leaders to connect market, portfolio, and strategic assumptions with financial plans by developing market models, opportunity assessments, financial analyses, investment requirements, growth expectations, and business cases.
- Translate strategic priorities into executable initiatives with clear owners, milestones, deliverables, and performance measures; establish Daily Management and recurring reviews to track progress, identify gaps, document decisions and actions, manage risks and dependencies, escalate issues, and ensure follow-through on countermeasures.
- Support strategic portfolio management and prioritization by consolidating product roadmaps, market priorities, investment needs, portfolio risks, and organic and inorganic growth opportunities; inform investment, resource-allocation, and product lifecycle decisions through market, customer, competitor, and technology analysis.
- Maintain strategy and portfolio dashboards, decision frameworks, initiative trackers, and standard work; lead defined analytical workstreams; assess adjacent markets, new business models, strategic partnerships, licensing opportunities, and potential acquisition targets; and apply Danaher Business System tools to strengthen strategy execution, portfolio governance, and decision-making.
The essential requirements of the job include:
- Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences, Biomedical Engineering, Biotechnology, Business, Economics, Finance, or a related field, combined with 5+ years of relevant experience in life sciences strategy consulting, strategic portfolio management, business development, market intelligence, or a related analytical role. Or 10+ years of relevant life sciences experience in lieu of a degree.
- Strong strategic and analytical problem-solving skills, with the ability to structure ambiguous questions, synthesize complex information, and develop clear, fact-based recommendations for senior stakeholders.
- Demonstrated experience in market research, competitive analysis, market sizing, financial analysis, and business-case development.
- Strong project-management and cross-functional coordination capabilities, with disciplined follow-through on actions and commitments and the ability to work effectively in a global, matrixed organization.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel, strong aptitude for learning and using relevant AI tools, and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Travel, Motor Vehicle Record & Physical/Environment Requirements:
- Ability to travel approximately 15%, including occasional international travel, depending on business needs.

The annual salary range for this role is $140,000 to $180,000. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. This range may be modified in the future.
This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
