Description
The Java Angular Full Stack Developer is an intermediate level position responsible for participation in the establishment and implementation of new or revised application systems and programs in coordination with the Technology team. The overall objective of this role is to contribute to applications systems analysis and programming activities.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain Java Spring Boot microservices powering core lending workflows, including loan origination, draw management, credit facility processing, and repayment lifecycle management
- Build and maintain scalable RESTful APIs following enterprise API standards, ensuring proper versioning, error handling, pagination, and security controls across lending platforms
- Develop responsive, component-driven Angular front-end applications that serve operations, credit, and business users across lending workflows — including case management UIs, approval dashboards, and pre-approval screens
- Architect and implement event-driven microservices using Apache Kafka for real-time inter-service communication — including publishing and consuming approval status events, case lifecycle updates, and draw activity state changes
- Deploy, manage, and optimize containerized applications on ECS clusters, including task definition management, service scaling, health monitoring, and environment-specific configuration
- Manage source control, branching strategies, pull requests, and CI/CD pipelines using GitHub and GitHub Actions — enforcing code review standards and automated build/test gates
- Design and maintain Autosys and cron job scheduling frameworks for batch processing of lending operations, including end-of-day position calculations, facility utilization updates, LDS database reconciliation, and automated report generation
- Monitor and control all phases of the software development lifecycle — analysis, design, construction, testing, and production rollout — while providing operational support to lending business users
- Define and enforce security measures across APIs and services, including authentication, authorization, secrets management, and post-implementation analysis of lending system usage
- Ensure essential engineering procedures are followed; contribute to defining operating standards, coding guidelines, and development best practices across the team
- Operate with a high degree of independence, exercising sound judgment on architectural and implementation decisions with limited direct supervision
- Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency
Required Qualifications:
- 4+ years of hands-on software engineering experience, with a strong focus on enterprise-grade Java applications
- Proficiency in Java (8/11/17+) and Spring Boot — including Spring MVC, Spring Data JPA, Spring Security, and Spring Cloud
- Hands-on experience building and consuming RESTful APIs with a solid understanding of API design principles, OpenAPI/Swagger documentation, and API gateway integration
- Proven experience designing and implementing microservices architectures — including service decomposition, inter-service communication, resilience patterns (circuit breaker, retry), and distributed tracing
- Strong working knowledge of Apache Kafka — including producers, consumers, consumer groups, topic configuration, offset management, and event-driven design patterns
- Experience developing Angular (v12+) front-end applications — including component architecture, reactive forms, RxJS, HTTP interceptors, and state management
- Hands-on experience deploying and operating applications on AWS ECS clusters — including Fargate/EC2 launch types, task definitions, service auto-scaling, and CloudWatch monitoring
- Proficiency with GitHub — branching strategies (GitFlow/trunk-based), pull request workflows, code reviews, and CI/CD pipeline integration via GitHub Actions
- Experience configuring and maintaining Autosys job scheduling and/or Linux cron jobs for batch processing in a financial services environment
- Experience with relational databases (Oracle, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL stores; ability to write optimized SQL and manage schema migrations (Liquibase / Flyway)
- Familiarity with containerization (Docker) and orchestration concepts
- Experience working in Agile/Scrum delivery frameworks with cross-functional teams
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage competing priorities under tight deadlines
- Excellent communication skills — able to articulate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical peers and non-technical business stakeholders
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of EEMS role-based access control frameworks and approval routing in lending workflows
- Familiarity with ServiceNow, Harness, or Lightspeed CI/CD tooling
- AWS certifications (Solutions Architect, Developer Associate) or equivalent cloud credentials
- Experience with observability tooling — Grafana, Elastic/Kibana, or Splunk — for monitoring lending platform health
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree/University degree or equivalent experience
