About Mimecast
Mimecast started in email security — and we're still a recognised leader in it. But today we're much more than that. Through strategic acquisitions and organic development, Mimecast has built a connected Human Risk Management platform spanning email security, data protection and insider risk, security awareness training, digital communications governance, and AI-powered threat intelligence. We protect over 42,000 organizations worldwide, focused on a problem the industry is only now catching up to: the human layer is the biggest attack surface in cybersecurity. We're looking for a Senior Director of Sales Engineering to lead our team across Australia and Singapore and bring that full platform story to life for enterprise customers, channel partners, and prospects across the region.
About the position
As Senior Director of Sales Engineering, you will report to the SVP of Global Sales Engineering and play a critical role partnering with the regional Go-To-Market team across APAC. As a member of the regional leadership team, you will lead a team of Sales Engineers focused on pre-sales strategy and winning prospects and customers on the technical sell, executing the global sales engineering strategy while adapting it to the unique needs of each market. Responsibilities include operational efficiency, talent identification and promotion, reporting and metrics, technical solution validation, mentoring and training, and regional budget and capacity planning. Channel is central to how Mimecast scales in the region, so a strong track record of enabling and selling through distribution and reseller partners is essential. Experience managing distributed teams across multiple countries, languages, and time zones is required.
What You'll Do:
Sales Engineering Management & Leadership
Define strategy and the operational model for coverage across APAC, coordinating with regional sales managers to avoid gaps and resolve resourcing conflicts
Build and develop a high-performing SE organization through effective hiring, coaching, and performance management
Align with global SE leadership on best practices, methodology, and tooling, and share regional insights back into the global function
Create a culture of continuous learning and technical excellence while ensuring market-specific requirements are addressed
Own headcount planning, capacity forecasting, and career pathing for the regional SE team
Executive Pre-Sales Support
Provide executive sponsorship on major and strategic opportunities, engaging senior customer and partner contacts to ensure the Mimecast platform is positioned correctly and technical objections are overcome
Act as a trusted advisor to key customers and prospects in the region
Represent Mimecast as a speaker and panelist at industry conferences, customer events, and partner summits across the region, building the company's thought-leadership presence
Support high-value renewals and competitive displacements by engaging directly with technical decision-makers
Operational Improvement
Define and track reporting and metrics in alignment with global standards, and oversee technical evaluations such as proof-of-value engagements and product trials
Manage regional budget and expense oversight, and drive coordination and improvement of the sales process
Gather feedback from customers, prospects, and the SE team on competitive positioning, product gaps, and market shifts, and channel it to global product and executive teams
Identify and roll out tooling and process improvements (demo environments, POV frameworks) to increase SE productivity across the region
Reseller and Partner Relationships
Ensure reseller partners are capable of selling and supporting the full Mimecast platform, overseeing partner training and tracking success
Develop working relationships with senior staff across reseller partner organizations in the region
What You'll Need:
Prior experience in the cybersecurity industry, with proven leadership of a regional or multi-country pre-sales team
Ability to manage team members across multiple countries, languages, and time zones within APAC
Strong presentation skills in English, including public speaking at conferences and industry events; additional regional languages (e.g., Bahasa, Mandarin) are a plus
Experience dealing with customers of differing sizes in a pre-sales setting across APAC markets
Familiarity with sales methodologies such as Force Management, Solution Selling, or The Challenger Sale
Demonstrated ability to handle objections, think on your feet, and lead by example
Capacity to explain technical solutions to a business-focused customer, with experience in consultative selling of complex services
Willingness to travel up to 50% within the region, including for conferences and partner events
Track record of project leadership, indirect/channel sales experience, and operating in a high-growth, dynamic company
Deep understanding of cybersecurity, SaaS architecture, and typical business email systems
Understanding of regional data compliance requirements such as Australia's Privacy Act and Malaysia/Indonesia's data protection laws
Cultural awareness and ability to work effectively across diverse APAC markets
Familiarity with AI tools (e.g., Claude) to aid in day-to-day job requirements
Qualifications:
Degree Level education (preferred but not required)
Relevant industry certifications (vendor-specific, CISSP, or equivalent)
