Service Engineer – Fleet In-Charge is responsible for the end-to-end maintenance, availability, and safe operation of diesel-powered Passenger Carriers and Scissor Lift equipment used in underground mining operations. The role involves hands-on service engineering, fleet supervision, manpower coordination, and ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and performance standards.
1. Fleet Maintenance & Availability
Ensure maximum availability and reliability of the assigned fleet of diesel Passenger Carriers and Scissor Lifts used in underground operations.
Plan and execute preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance activities as per OEM recommendations and site requirements.
Monitor equipment health, recurring failures, and take corrective and preventive actions to improve MTBF and reduce MTTR.
2. Service Operations & Supervision
Supervise day-to-day service activities of service technicians and helpers deployed for the fleet.
Allocate jobs, schedule maintenance tasks, and monitor execution to ensure timely completion with required quality standards.
Provide hands-on technical support for complex troubleshooting and critical repairs.
3. Safety, Compliance & Standards
Ensure all maintenance and service activities are carried out in strict compliance with safety regulations, underground mining norms, and company SOPs.
Conduct job safety analysis (JSA), toolbox talks, and ensure proper permit systems are followed before starting any job.
Ensure equipment is released for operation only after proper inspection, testing, and safety clearance.
4. Documentation & Reporting
Maintain accurate maintenance records, job cards, service reports, breakdown logs, and daily equipment status reports.
Track delays, repeat failures, parts consumption, and additional work requirements.
Prepare fleet performance reports highlighting equipment availability, downtime reasons, faults observed, and improvement actions.
5. Spares & Coordination
Coordinate with stores and planning teams for timely availability of spares, consumables, and tools required for fleet maintenance.
Identify critical spares, raise indents, and support inventory optimization to avoid equipment downtime due to parts shortage.
6. Stakeholder & Team Coordination
Coordinate with operations, shift in-charges, safety teams, and client representatives to ensure smooth equipment deployment and maintenance planning.
Communicate equipment status, constraints, and readiness clearly to users and management.
7. Continuous Improvement
Analyze equipment performance trends and propose technical modifications or process improvements to enhance safety, reliability, and productivity.
Support implementation of TPM, reliability-centered maintenance, and best maintenance practices at site.
Qualifications & Experience
Diploma / Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Automobile Engineering.
Proven experience as a Service Engineer handling diesel-powered underground or mining equipment.
Strong knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, and diesel systems.
Experience in supervising technicians and managing a dedicated equipment fleet is preferred.
