Summary

The Transmission Planning Engineer performs engineering studies and analyses on PGE’s transmission system and recommends engineering solutions to mitigate system risk and optimize system investment. They will prepare engineering solutions to mitigate system risk and optimize system investment. This work involves documenting study results, making recommendations for changes to the transmission system, and working across a broad team to identify the full scope of a project. The planning engineer ensures compliance with NERC standards while also maintaining focus on the customer experience.  They are also involved with studying new large generation interconnections as well as large load additions to PGE’s grid.

1 position available. Can be filled at either the Senior/p3 or Principal level/p4.  See determining qualifications below.

Senior Transmission Planning Engineer:

  • Engineering Standards - Maintains understanding of state-of-the-art engineering practices and provides guidance and direction on engineering processes and standards to colleagues as requested. Applies extensive knowledge of PGE’s transmission system and applies extensive knowledge of NERC reliability standards.
  • Engineering Production - Prepares a variety of complex engineering deliverables for a wide variety of projects; coordinates multiple- discipline activity.
  • Project Coordination - Actively coordinates with other internal/external team members on moderately complex projects, including representing the team to interdepartmental stakeholders.
  • Knowledge Sharing - Serves as a technical specialist and provides consultation/guidance to project teams in a particular practice area; actively fosters knowledge management and provides mentoring; implements resource-management strategy.

    Principal Transmission Planning Engineer:

    • Engineering Standards - Maintains understanding of state-of-the-art engineering practices and discerns need for and provides guidance and direction to colleagues on engineering processes and standards. Provides guidance based on advanced knowledge of PGE’s transmission systems and leads compliance efforts with NERC reliability standards.
    • Engineering Production - Prepares a variety of complex engineering deliverables for a wide range of projects, including establishing work plans to be applied.
    • Project Coordination - Actively coordinates with other internal/external team members on complex projects, representing the team to internal and external stakeholders (i.e., regulatory, technical society, etc.).
    • Knowledge Sharing - Actively advances knowledge management of the enterprise and provides mentoring; participates in professional societies and technical committees and may assist with code/standard authoring; is externally recognized in the industry as a technical expert; reviews engineering work, resolves resource conflicts and identifies training needs.

    Education/Experience/Certifications

    • Education - Requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering. ABET-accredited engineering program or program accredited by an equivalent agency preferred.
    • Senior level experience -  Typically, five or more years in engineering, or four or more years in related field with PE license.
    • Principal level experience – Typically, eight or more years in related field.
    • Certifications, Licenses and Training - Professional Engineering (PE) license strongly preferred; may be required based upon role. Valid Driver’s License required.

    • Advanced knowledge of initiating electrical improvements and corrective actions for the transmission system related facilities.
    • Advanced knowledge in calculating electrical system parameters and transmission system modeling.
    • Advanced knowledge of substations, control and protection systems preferred.
    • Advanced ability to review, evaluate and analyze technical information, policies, and reports.

    Schedule/Attendance
