Job Title: Power Field Technician
Department: Riggs Power Systems
Reports To: Power Field Coordinator / Power Field Operations Manager Location: Field-Based Job Summary:
The Power Field Technician is responsible for performing diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on power generation equipment in the field. This includes Caterpillar and other OEM diesel and gas engines, generators, switchgear, and related systems. The technician plays a key role in supporting Riggs Power Systems clients by delivering safe, efficient, and quality service in a professional manner.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform diagnostics, maintenance, and repair of diesel and gas engines, generators, and electrical systems.
- Conduct preventive maintenance, load bank testing, and system inspections to ensure reliability.
- Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical and electrical issues using service manuals, schematics, and diagnostic software.
- Accurately complete service reports, work orders, and related documentation.
- Communicate effectively with coordinators, management, and clients regarding job status, parts requirements, and next steps.
- Assist with start-ups, commissioning, and system testing for new installations.
- Participate in the on-call rotation and respond to after-hours service calls as needed.
- Follow all Riggs Power Systems safety policies and procedures.
- Maintain a professional appearance and represent Riggs with integrity on every job site.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or vocational training preferred.
- 3+ years of experience servicing diesel or gas engines, power generation systems, or related equipment.
- Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills.
- Familiarity with Caterpillar, Cummins, or similar power generation systems preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical documentation.
- Proficient with laptop-based diagnostic tools and Caterpillar service software.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Must be self-motivated and able to work independently in field environments.
- Up to 50% over night travel.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift to 50 lbs.
- Work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and climb for extended periods.
