Day in the Life:

The Arizona Humane Society is seeking a passionate and enthusiastic Humane Education Instructor to create meaningful, interactive, and hands on learning experiences that inspire compassion for animals and our community. This role facilitates programs for all ages, including scout programs, birthday parties, reading programs, tours, field trips, school programs, and camps, while educating the community about animal welfare and supporting AHS's mission of cultivating a more empathetic and compassionate community.

This dynamic position offers varying weekly hours based on scheduled programs and events, with flexible weekend and evening availability and potential day camp opportunities. The Instructor will engage diverse audiences through enthusiastic, patient teaching, maintain safe and positive learning environments, set up and break down instructional spaces, and provide excellent customer service. Additional responsibilities include communicating AHS's mission to the community and partners, processing payments, and completing light administrative work related to scheduling, reporting, and record keeping.

 

Job Requirements:

  • High school diploma/GED required.
  • Experience facilitating youth education programs preferred.
  • 1-2 years' experience working with children in an education or instructional setting (formal/informal).
  • Valid AZ driver's license.
  • Fingerprint clearance card
  • Ability to use positive techniques to manage disruptions among youth.
  • Ability to multitask during programming, managing both animals and guests.
  • Capacity to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience with public speaking and public appearances.
  • Customer service experience required.
  • Access to reliable transportation and the ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends and evenings.
  • Must be able to handle live animals, including snakes and invertebrates, safely and humanely in all conditions. Professional experience handling live animals preferred.
  • Able to speak, read and write English. Must have excellent communication skills. Spanish language helpful.

 

Work Environment / Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
