Position Summary
ChristianaCare is seeking a dedicated Environmental Services Associate I to help maintain a clean, safe, and sanitary environment for patients, visitors, and employees. This role is responsible for ensuring all patient care areas, offices, and ancillary spaces meet the highest standards of cleanliness and infection prevention while supporting a positive healthcare experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Clean and sanitize patient rooms, offices, common areas, and ancillary spaces throughout the hospital.
- Clean and disinfect isolation and precaution rooms in accordance with infection prevention policies and procedures.
- Maintain Environmental Services carts, equipment, and supply closets in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
- Remove empty boxes and clutter from carts, closets, hallways, and work areas.
- Restock paper products, soap, and other supplies throughout the facility.
- Collect and transport trash and soiled linen from assigned areas.
- Remove bulk trash and transport it to designated compactor locations.
- Respond promptly to Environmental Services calls, texts, and electronic work assignments.
- Utilize smartphones and mobile applications to receive and manage work assignments.
- Attend department training sessions and required in-service education programs.
- Report maintenance concerns, equipment damage, safety hazards, and unsafe conditions to leadership in a timely manner.
- Follow all departmental safety procedures and infection control protocols.
- Maintain a professional, courteous, and customer-focused attitude when interacting with patients, visitors, and staff.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
Experience & Skills
- Knowledge of environmental services, housekeeping, or cleaning procedures preferred.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively.
- Ability to maintain patient confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
- Strong customer service skills with a helpful and positive attitude.
- Ability to work independently and follow established policies and procedures.
- Ability to effectively use smartphones, mobile devices, and basic technology for work assignments.
- Commitment to personal hygiene and professional appearance standards.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
- Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry materials and equipment as needed.
- Ability to perform repetitive cleaning tasks and other assigned duties during the entire shift.
Working Conditions
- Daily interaction with patients, visitors, and healthcare team members.
- Potential exposure to infectious diseases; adherence to infection control protocols and personal protective equipment requirements is mandatory.
- Safety glasses must be worn at all times while performing assigned duties.
- Access to and occasional use of email and other electronic communication systems may be required.
