The GEAR UP Event & College Coordinator is responsible for coordinating GEAR UP events, workshops, and student engagement activities while also providing college support services to LCCC GEAR UP college freshmen. The coordinator helps students navigate college processes, connect with campus resources, and build skills that support persistence and success. This position adheres to the GEAR UP grant guidelines, works collaboratively, and strives to meet grant goals. This position is grant-funded; specific parameters associated with the grant may impact the start/stop of any employment relationship as well as compensation. - Ensures the successful execution of GEAR UP events by effectively planning, organizing, and coordinating all logistics. Maintain ongoing collaboration with stakeholders, managing event schedule, and agenda timing to deliver seamless and impactful events for participants, speakers, and staff.
- Empower college students to make informed decisions by actively listening, providing accurate, up-to-date information, and offering tailored advice that support students’ academic and career goals.
- Develop, update, and maintain GEAR UP lesson plans by incorporating stakeholder feedback and ensuring they are tailored to the appropriate grade level, resulting in relevant and effective educational experiences.
- Recruit new GEAR UP students and families into the program by providing proactive outreach, being the main point of contact for inquiries, scheduling, coordinating, and in some cases attending recruitment events within the community and partner schools.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge
- Knowledge of organizing and planning the logistics of multiple types of events from inception to evaluation
- Knowledge of administrative and office procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, designing forms, and workplace terminology.
- Knowledge, awareness, and sensitivity to the legalities of working with minors.
- Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups relevant to appropriate grade level.

Minimum Qualifications:- Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution and one year of experience in education, academic counseling, or a related field, including work with adolescents and families and experience coordinating events; OR an Associate’s degree from a regionally accredited institution and two years of experience in education, academic counseling, or a related field, including work with adolescents and families and experience coordinating events.
- One year of experience working in education, academic counseling, or related field; to include experience working with adolescents and families.
- Two years of experience working with/supporting individuals from low-income populations in overcoming barriers and achieving goals and/or supporting hies demographic in a similar work environment.
- Ability to travel
- Valid Driver’s License and ability to be insured by the College’s insurance provider.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in a closely related field of study.
- Two years of experience working with grant projects, public school personnel, and providing college readiness and/or preparedness support.
- Two years of experience with program development, curriculum development, and utilizing effective management and organization skills.
