Job Description Summary

SQ Technical Leader – MSD&BoP Mechanical (in further text SQ TL MSD&BoP M) will provide a strong and efficient interface between Supplier Quality, Sourcing, Engineering and Quality Value Streams functions to ensure reliable supplier quality development and qualification of their products in the MSD&BoP mechanical commodity scope.

This global role will contribute to the strategy of Strategic Sourcing by ensuring that quality risks, qualification gaps and resources are known and discussed as early as possible, allowing the business to make data driven, risk aware decisions.

This role will report to the Regional MSD&BoP SQ Leader, supporting him/her in developing and implementing a global strategic plan to address top systemic supplier issues in the MSD&BoP mechanical domain and execute this strategy in partnership with internal and external customers.

SQ TL MSD&BoP M will make sure that the standard work necessary for effective qualification of welding and NDT processes at suppliers and other supplier development activities are defined, maintained, and harmonized across regions and MSD&BoP sub-commodities.

Finally, this role will assure and coordinate timely and effective technical and quality methodology support to SQ Engineers executing product qualifications, critical process audits, PFMEAs, RCAs/RCIs and problem solving-based quality improvement programs at top offenders.

Job Description

  • Support Global MSD&BoP SQ Leader and Regional SQ Managers to develop the team technical capability in the MSD&BoP mechanical scope: manage team expertise pool, identify gaps, define training programs.
  • Establish and lead the network of SQEs in the global MSD&BoP SQ team in charge of suppliers of MSD&BoP mechanical; partner with corresponding specialists in Engineering.
  • Provide technical mentoring and training to develop MSD&BoP team’s mechanical expertise. Influence, inspire and motivate supplier quality and engineering community, by setting excellence standards in the domain.
  • Communicate within MSD&BoP mechanical technical domain internally and externally (to customers, suppliers, local authorities, normative entities) as required to support the business objectives.
  • Support Global MSD&BoP SQ Leader and Regional SQ Managers in planning of a proactive global audit program to reduce & eliminate product & process risk and customer escapes.
  • Define formal and standard product qualification requirements for MSD&BoP mechanical.
  • Audit manufacturing processes at critical MSD&BoP mechanical suppliers and top offenders.
  • Lead and/or technically support RCAs related to MSD&BoP mechanical scope of products.
  • Identify the need and initiate revisions/updates of technical work instructions and specification, and design practices related to MSD&BoP mechanical products. Identify and eliminate non-value-adding processes.
  • Identify and disseminate lessons-learned and leverage the development of a supplier read across program within MSD&BoP mechanical supply base.
  • Actively participate in Strategic Sourcing commodity reviews. Ensure Quality risks, qualification needs, budget constraints & expertise gaps are known and addressed for new product qualifications and/or new suppliers’ introduction, with respect to their manufacturing capabilities.
  • Align with Engineering and Value Stream Quality leaders in identifying and leading generic supplier development programs to continuously improve MSD&BoP mechanical manufacturing process performance and improve supplier base.
  • As needed, and up to 50% of work time, execute Supplier Quality Engineer activities, at critical mechanical suppliers in APAC region:
    • Develop and monitor SQ on assigned equipment/product from supplier qualification phase to final inspections to verify compliance with technical and quality requirements before shipment release.
    • New Supplier Evaluation / Onboarding: rigorously execute the supplier evaluation process, including quality & compliance audits to ensure that only appropriately qualified suppliers are taken through the process. Work with sourcing/commodity team to meet business objectives of new supplier addition and provide input to technical tender analysis.
    • Lead Supplier Qualification in partnership with Strategic Sourcing, Procurement, Engineering and Project Quality.
    • Prepare Supplier Quality Documents for project such Quality Control Plan (QCP), ITPL (Inspection Testing Plan) Product Testing procedure.
    • Perform FAT (Factory Acceptance Test) and PSI (Pre-Shipment Inspection).
    • Organize/perform inspections at suppliers and ensure the product quality compliance.
    • Develop and execute surveillance audit plans to assure that suppliers have effective process control, rigorous product acceptance standards, and robust quality systems.
    • Own SRG (Safety/Health/Environment Supplier Responsibility Guidelines) metrics for assigned suppliers and conduct SRG audits in APAC region.
    • Manage Supplier Deviation Request (SDR), Non-Conformance Report (NCR) and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) for nonconformities caused by suppliers and lead resolution of complex, cross-functional quality issues for severe NCR/RCA.
    • Support suppliers to perform and maintain effective DFMEAs & PFMEAs.
    • Problem Solving with top offender suppliers; define and execute effective Quality Improvement Programs.
    • Review and approve supplier End of Manufacturing Reports and give release for shipment.

Required Qualifications and Personal Characteristics

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Material, Design or Quality Engineering from an accredited university or college;
  • 5+ years of experience in supplier quality or operations/supply chain; preferably in power industry, with proficiency to understand technical procedures, drawings, specifications, and standards;
  • Must be able to travel 25%;
  • Fluent in English language;
  • Experience working within complex, multi-site, multi-region organizations;
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and facilitation skills;
  • Strong problem solving skills;
  • Demonstrated leadership in defining the state of the art in your technical expertise and pursuing correct engineering process, along with the ability to train, mentor and coach individuals and teams;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively communicate across all organizational levels, departments, and functions;
  • Highly developed safety, compliance, quality, and lean mindset;
  • Humble, open, collaborative, and continuously learning;
  • Proficient with FMEA, 8D, Problem Solving methodologies;
  • Experience with PLM, ERP, and supplier management tools;
  • Experience interfacing with customers and senior leaders.
