Coastal Engineering is seeking a Professional Engineer (PE) Diver to provide engineering and technical expertise for underwater inspection, assessment, and marine construction projects. This position combines professional engineering judgment with commercial diving experience to evaluate the condition of marine structures and provide practical recommendations for repair, rehabilitation, and construction.
The PE Diver will serve as a field-based technical leader, performing and overseeing underwater inspections, evaluating structural conditions, preparing engineering documentation, and providing technical direction during diving and marine construction activities. The role will work closely with Coastal’s engineering and field teams, clients, contractors, and dive personnel.
Key Responsibilities
· Lead and perform underwater inspections and condition assessments of marine and waterfront structures
· Evaluate the structural condition of piers, bulkheads, bridges, dams, seawalls, and other underwater infrastructure
· Apply professional engineering judgment to identify deficiencies and develop repair or rehabilitation recommendations
· Prepare and review engineering reports, inspection findings, drawings, specifications, and technical documentation
· Plan and oversee underwater inspection activities, including dive operations, field procedures, and data collection
· Provide engineering oversight and technical direction to commercial dive teams during inspection and construction activities
· Coordinate with clients, contractors, engineers, and project teams to address field conditions and technical issues
· Perform engineering evaluations, calculations, and constructability reviews related to marine structures
· Ensure work is performed in accordance with applicable engineering standards, ADCI, OSHA, EM 385, and state/client requirements
Requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, Marine, or related Engineering discipline.
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- 5+ years of engineering experience, preferably in marine construction, underwater construction, structural engineering, or commercial diving.
- Commercial diving or significant experience working directly with commercial diving operations strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of underwater construction methods, marine structures, and field operations.
- Experience with underwater inspections, structural assessments, marine rehabilitation, or underwater construction preferred.
- Ability to develop and review engineering calculations, drawings, specifications, and technical reports.
- Strong understanding of structural systems, foundations, piles, concrete, steel, and marine infrastructure.
- Ability to interpret plans, specifications, survey information, inspection reports, and field conditions.
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Ability to balance office-based engineering responsibilities with regular field work.
- Willingness to travel to project sites and support field operations as needed.

Schedule
- Primarily Monday through Friday during standard business hours.
- Must be available as needed to support field operations, including early mornings, and evenings.
- Schedule may vary based on project demands, weather conditions, and critical construction activities.
Work Location & Requirements
- Location: Greenwood Lake, NY
- Travel throughout the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic region as required.
- Ability to access active marine construction sites, vessels, and waterfront facilities.
