The Cartographic Materials and English Monographs Cataloging Specialist position in the Cataloging Department is a dynamic and rewarding opportunity to impact the Libraries’ mission to promote discoverability and accessibility to resources for learning and research at Ohio State. Under the direction of the Catalog/Authorities Librarian, this position maintains the integrity of The Ohio State University Libraries catalog. Responsibilities include the following functions:

  • Performs original and complex copy cataloging for cartographic materials and other non-textual materials as needed, involving understanding of national and international cataloging rules and standards (e.g. RDA, MARC21) and experience using other metadata information tools, such as OCLC Connexion, Library of Congress (LC) classification schedules and LC subject headings.
  • Performs original and complex copy cataloging for monographs in English and other materials, as needed.
  • Communicates standard cataloging procedures and coordinates workflows with regional campuses.
  • Performs cataloging projects, as assigned by Catalog/Authorities Librarian, and coordinates with other departments as needed.
  • Serves as a specialized resource for cataloging questions and problems relating to cartographic materials
  • Interviews, hires, trains and supervises one or more student assistants 
  • Creates authority records or updates existing authority records as needed
  • Creates and maintains documentation.
  • Attends and participates in workshops, meetings, and committees.

Education and Experience

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 2 years of relevant complex cataloging experience.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Detail oriented and excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent communication skills

Desired Qualifications:

  • 2-4 years of experience with cataloging or other relevant library experience
  • Experience cataloging non-textual materials
  • Reading knowledge of a language other than English

Additional Information:

The posting range for this position is $21.35-$24.00 per hour.
