CLDC Integrator & Deputy TOM

Belong. Connect. Grow. with KBR!

Around here, we define the future.

We are a company of innovators, thinkers, creators, explorers, volunteers, and dreamers. But we all share one goal: to improve the world responsibly and safely.

On the Human Health and Performance Contract (HHPC) we are at the forefront of safeguarding astronaut health, ensuring human performance, and advancing technologies for human space exploration. We are seeking the right candidate to fill two partial job functions – as a Commercial Low Earth Destination Contract (CLDC) Integrator, and as a Deputy Task Order Manager (TOM) for the Medical Operations Task Order. This position is based out of NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC) in Houston, TX.

What You’ll Do:

You play a role in supporting two key functions, anticipated to be at a 70% / 30% tasking split between Commercial Low Earth Destination Contract (CLDC) Integrator, and Deputy Task Order Manager (TOM) for the Medical Operations Task Order.

Your primary responsibility, in the CLDC Integrator role you will support KBR’s CLDC partners in the development of their flight and crew operations programs. You will provide project management, technical support, systems integration, and leadership in the development of the CLDC partner’s operations concepts and implementation plan for flight operations, training, and medical operations. You will provide operations expertise in review and coordination of CLDC partner requirements, implementation plans, and other program documentation and processes. You will assist with hardware selection and operations product development. You will participate in the development, implementation, and execution of biomedical mission operations support for the CLDC partner missions such as free-flying missions, or Private Astronaut Missions (PAM) to the International Space Station (ISS).

Your secondary responsibility, in the Deputy TOM role, you will serve as a HHPC first level personnel manager assigned to the Flight Medical Operations Department (FMOD) management team supporting NASA’s SD Space Medicine Operations Division. As the Deputy TOM, the candidate is responsible for HHPC personnel and work performed within the Medical Operations Task Order (TO). The candidate will back up the TOM as interface to FMOD Department Manager, Subtask Leads, HHPC management at the Program and Department levels; NASA Technical Monitors and Branch Management, HH&P Management, KBR functional organization representatives, and other HHPC TOMs as appropriate relative to project performance. The candidate is a backup for oversight of all TO and related products, including coordination of TO/Contract and department level project status reporting; generating and approval of estimates, schedule management, processes management, Requests for Amendment (RFA) and Statements of Work (SOW) development.

Both roles in this position will require the ability to communicate difficult concepts and negotiate with others to influence decisions. The successful candidate will build and maintain trusted relationships with key customers, stakeholders, and employees in a very dynamic and challenging environment where integration, coordination, communication, and negotiation skills are required.

What You Bring:

You bring experience leading a team of Medical Operations personnel in different competencies towards a common goal.  You use your experience and judgment to support both the Medical Operations Task Order Manager, as well as Commercial Low Earth Orbit Destination partners in operations and planning. You comply with KBR’s Safety, Health and Environmental Plan, Quality Plan, and all safety policies and procedures, and complete all assigned training.

Your Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Biomedical Engineering or a related Engineering/Sciences field
  • Experience working with spaceflight life support and/or medical systems
  • Experience leading an operations team to success in complex human spaceflight missions
  • Experience developing and maintaining key customer relationships, preferably within SD and with external Low Earth Orbit (LEO) program or Commercial Low Earth Orbit Destination Contract (CLDC) partners
  • Desired
    • A background in physiology or associated coursework
    • Current or former real-time Flight Controller certification for a human spaceflight program
    • Experience with human systems requirements/verification

Your Skills:

  • Excellent interpersonal communication, presentation, negotiation, and consultation skills for confident interaction with senior management.
  • Excellent strategic planning, leadership, and change management skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently.
  • Ability to balance between most ideal and most pragmatic solutions that meet customer and business needs.
  • Must be able to work well both individually with a high degree of initiative and self-starter motivation, as well as in group environments that at times may require acting as the sole Medical Operations representative on a team.
  • Must be a team player who is able to work effectively at all levels of an organization with the ability to influence others to move toward consensus.
  • Must be open-minded to new ideas and new ways of doing business, willing to aggressively pursue new opportunities, and flexible enough to adapt to a rapidly changing technical environment.
  • Mature, professional judgment in establishing objectives, milestones, and priorities.
