Salary: $75,000-$80,000 per year

Are you an experienced automotive purchasing professional with strong knowledge of steel, aluminum, stamping, and forging? This is an excellent opportunity to join an international organization where you will play a key role in managing metal commodities, supplier relationships, negotiations, and supply continuity across three manufacturing sites - one in Michigan and two in Mexico.

As Commodity Buyer, you will have meaningful responsibility and visibility within the purchasing organization, working closely with suppliers and internal teams to deliver the right balance of Quality, Cost, Delivery, and Performance (QCDP).

What You’ll Do

  • Manage purchasing activities for key metal commodities, including steel, aluminum, stamping, and forging
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers through regular communication and proactive issue resolution
  • Negotiate pricing, payment terms, delivery conditions, and commercial agreements within established corporate guidelines
  • Ensure reliable, on-time supply to support production requirements across assigned plants
  • Monitor supplier performance across quality, cost, and delivery, identifying risks and escalating issues when appropriate
  • Identify and implement cost-reduction opportunities and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Follow standardized purchasing processes, corporate policies, and compliance requirements
  • Partner cross-functionally with Quality, Logistics, Finance, Engineering/Projects, and Operations to resolve issues and support business objectives
  • Work within corporate purchasing strategies established by the Regional Purchasing Director and Corporate Headquarters

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business, Engineering, Supply Chain, or a related field
  • 5+ years of purchasing experience within the automotive industry
  • Strong knowledge of metal commodities and automotive supplier markets
  • Proven experience with supplier management, purchasing negotiations, and contract/commercial terms
  • Experience working with SAP and strong proficiency with Microsoft Office
  • Strong understanding of supply continuity and the impact of supplier performance on manufacturing operations

What Will Make You Successful

We’re looking for a results-driven purchasing professional who can balance strategic thinking with day-to-day execution. You are:

  • A strong communicator and relationship builder
  • A confident negotiator who can build productive supplier partnerships
  • A practical problem solver who follows issues through to resolution
  • Highly organized and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
  • Persistent and accountable
  • Focused on measurable results and the QCDP philosophy—Quality, Cost, Delivery, and Performance
  • Comfortable collaborating across departments, plants, and international teams

Why This Opportunity?

This role offers the opportunity to make a direct impact on supplier performance, purchasing costs, and production continuity while working within a global automotive manufacturing environment. You’ll have the scope and visibility to influence results across multiple manufacturing locations and contribute to meaningful cost and operational improvements.

If you’re an automotive purchasing professional with metal commodity expertise and you’re ready for a role with broader responsibility and international exposure, we’d like to hear from you.
