This is a flexible role where you can work 3 days from home and 2 days in the office.



Job Description

The Nurse Biopsy Coordinator (NBC) is responsible for tracking pathology results from the start of the sample collection through the completion of the treatment. The NBC promptly delivers pathology results, provides patient education, explains the treatment plan and schedules treatment/follow-up care.

 Essential Job functions:

  • Acts in compliance with our Biopsy Workflow process
  • Demonstrates a working knowledge of booking and scheduling procedures.
  • Direct scheduling treatment of patients for multiple providers.
  • Demonstrates an understanding for rescheduling and canceling procedures.
  • Documents thoroughly and accurately in EMR.
  • Responsible for managing the provider Pend bucket in EMR. This is where all the pending pathology results are tracked and requires updating at least every 30 days.
  • Notification of patient results and treatment plan; contacting patients by phone and sending certified letters in a timely manner. Initial outreach to the patient must be made by phone within 24 hours of receiving the pathology report.
  • Verbalizes customer services skills to alleviate patient anxiety.
  • Performs reminder calls to patients prior to treatment.
  • Reviews weekly provider schedule to maximize utilization of availability and increase physician productivity.
  • Reports malignancies to the SMG cancer registry.
  • Assists with transfers of care including sending over records.
  • Acts as a liaison between the provider and patient. Able to apply clinical nursing judgment and critical thinking skills throughout the biopsy process. Communicates effectively with the provider and escalates any clinical concerns promptly.
  • Demonstrates customer service skills and professionalism
  • Assists in training new staff on the department skin cancer specimen process.
  • Performs various clerical duties including faxing, photocopying, scanning, filing and mailing.

  • Physical agility, which includes ability to maneuver body while in place.
  • Dexterity of hands and fingers.
  • Endurance (e.g. continuous typing, prolonged standing/bending, walking).

Education, Certification, Computer and Training Requirements:

  • High School graduate/GED required
  • BLS certification required
  • Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Minimum of 2 years’ of prior work experience as an RN, preferably in Dermatology
  • Ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Ability to perform diverse work assignments with time limitations with a high degree of accuracy
  • Ability to use problem solving, critical thinking and priority setting skills
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Detail-oriented and committed to providing safe patient care
  • Basic proficiency in computer use, required
  • Standard Office Equipment (Phone, Fax, Copy Machine, Scanner, Email/Voice Mail)
  • Standard Office Technology in a Window based environment
  • EHR, Practice Management System and Departmental/Ancillary Systems

Travel:

  • Travel to satellite locations as needed
Pay Range: $40.38 - $50.48 Hourly

The provided compensation range is based on industry standards and salary determinations will be made based on numerous factors including but not limited to years of experience and location of position.
