This role involves patrolling the pool area, ensuring the safety of swimmers, and providing immediate assistance in case of emergencies.

We're especially interested in candidates who would like to grow beyond lifeguarding and become swim instructors for our Learn to Swim Program. The program not only teaches essential swimming skills but also emphasizes the importance of water safety and responsible behavior in and around aquatic environments.

Schedule Commitment

This flexible part-time position offers up to 20 hours per week. Lifeguarding shifts may include weekdays, evenings, weekends, and holidays, with schedules based on facility needs and your availability. Daytime availability, particularly between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., is a plus!

Candidates interested in teaching swim lessons should be available on weekday evenings.

Pay Plan
This opportunity is non-exempt and on Pay Grade Plan 1. The full Pay Grade Range is shown for growth and development opportunities within the determination is supported by budget availability and qualifications of the candidate to maintain internal equity. 

• Lifeguard, Pay Grade 1
  • Min: $15.79
  • Mid: $19.33
  • Max: 22.89
  • Hiring Range: $15.79

For Lifeguards:

• Must be at least 16 years of age.
• Ellis & Associates lifeguard certification is required and provided on-site. Must be able to complete the following prerequisites to obtain an Ellis & Associates Lifeguard license:
• 200-yard swim
• Retrieve a 10 lb. brick from the bottom of the 12 ft. pool (feet first)
• Tread water for 2 minutes with no hands

Additional Requirements for Swim Instructors:

• Jeff Ellis Swimming Instructor certification required and provided on site. Ability to perform
  and demonstrate all strokes for various levels, including:
  • Front Crawl
  • Elementary Backstroke
  • Backstroke
  • Breaststroke
  • Butterfly
    

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Knowledge

• Comprehensive understanding of aquatic safety, emergency procedures, and compliance with facility
  rules.
• Basic knowledge of water quality testing, pool maintenance, and filtration systems.
• Familiarity with CPR, First Aid, and rescue techniques as outlined by Ellis & Associates standards

Skills

• Strong swimming and rescue skills, including proficiency with emergency equipment and procedures.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills for engaging with patrons and resolving conflicts.
• Organizational skills to manage routine maintenance and respond efficiently to emergencies.

Abilities

• Ability to monitor aquatic areas attentively and respond promptly to emergencies.
• Physical stamina to perform rescues, provide emergency care, and complete assigned tasks.
• Capability to assist and interact with patrons of all ages and abilities, including those with physical
  challenges.

After nearly 20 years as Parks and Recreation, our department has experienced explosive growth of our parks and trails system, and expanded its scope to include a recreation and aquatics center, a tennis center, a senior and community center, a biodiversity education center, playgrounds, new ball fields, community gardens, a farmers market, a cemetery, massive growth in special event offerings, the addition of a marketing and community engagement team, a dog park, an arts center, a library, pickleball courts and thousands of camps, classes, programs, sports leagues and services. We offer such a wide variety of services to the community - greatly expanding the purview of traditional parks and recreation. In January 2023 we became Coppell Community Experiences. The name change and rebranding reflects our desire to reimagine the way we serve the Coppell community and continue to meet both current needs and demands of the future. Several industries are now joined together working toward the same goal: to provide exceptional experiences to the Coppell community.
