POSITION SUMMARY:
The AVP/VP, Underwriter is responsible for the analysis and underwriting of assumed risks within the global credit portfolio. This individual will have a strong understanding of Credit market with particular focus in Europe. Underlying classes of understanding include Asset-Backed Lending, European Surety (Commercial & Contract), Political Risk, Project Finance, Commercial loans and Whole Turnover Trade Credit. This individual will need to garner credibility for this expertise both inside and outside the organization. They may also act as a trainer, leader and/or manager of risk analysts or junior underwriters.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Contribute to the development of a profitable book of business. Handle day-to-day transaction underwriting, structuring, building/maintaining client relationships, reporting on portfolio to internal/external stakeholders, and accounting.
- Enhance and maintain mutually beneficial client relationships. Communicate underwriting requirements and philosophies. Obtain supplemental underwriting information, analyze and interpret coverages, and negotiate final terms.
- Inform on market trends for line of business and report on assigned lines of business portfolio.
- Maintain a high level of expertise and product knowledge to serve as a resource for clients and staff.
- Identify, design, and drive marketing synergies, by developing creative solutions to client problems.
- Maximize use of RenRe risk and underwriting tools and analytics; enhance the risk management culture within the team.
- Investigate, evaluate and make recommendations for improvements to current and new risk models, changes to proprietary models and implement new models to enable improved analyses, reporting, manipulation of data and workflow. Interpret and challenge model results.
- Proactively research and explore new business opportunities and client/broker relationships.
- May manage, mentor, train and develop junior talent.
- Maintain ongoing, self-directed professional development.
- Prioritize expense management.
EXPECTED COMPETENCIES:
- A college or university degree required.
- A minimum of 7 years’ experience in the financial industry. Experience in the Credit Bond and Political Risk market, preferred.
- Experience analyzing & underwriting credit risk exposures.
- Excellent problem-solving skills along with superior data management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate professionally at all levels of the organization as well as externally with key clients, brokers and vendors.
- Strong team player, proactive in collaborating across Credit UW and Operational supporting team
Travel required.
