Job Description:


JOB SUMMARY: The Communications Manager leads communication initiatives, public relations, and marketing campaigns for the E. J. Ourso College of Business undergraduate degree programs and student success initiatives. This role requires exceptional writing and editing skills to produce a wide array of content, from press releases and promotional materials to social media content, digital communications, and website content. Creative thinking is essential for devising innovative strategies that resonate with stakeholders and wide audiences. The Manager elevates the college's programs and accomplishments through collaboration with internal teams, faculty, staff, and students. They employ strategic thinking and communication expertise to advance the college’s mission and reputation.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

45% - Undergraduate degree program communications:

Develop and implement strategic, digital-first communications to promote undergraduate degree programs. • Create a variety of content, including student stories and profiles, press releases, social media content, promotional materials, and website copy. • Lead the planning, content development, production, editing, and distribution of the college’s weekly student newsletter, The Ourso Experience, with support from graduate assistants.


20% - Partner with the Office of Business Student Success to support communications related to student success, engagement, and career readiness initiatives.


15% - Work with OCME director to design and implement social media strategy to align with business goals, develop social content editorial calendar, monitor, and report on engagement analytics.


10%- Develop communications and marketing materials for assigned units, including the Center for Internal Auditing & Cybersecurity Risk Management. This could include press releases, marketing collateral, mass emails, speeches, long-form editorial content, and social media content.


5%- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, communicate proactively with clients and team members, and track timelines and milestones to ensure timely completion.


5% - Other:

Assist with content creation to support special initiatives as requested by the LSU Division of Marketing and Communications, the LSU Foundation, and other entities. • Performs other duties and assigned and assists with other special projects as assigned by the director.


FERPA - As with all LSU employees, due to this position title and/or responsibilities, this position has an obligation to assist students in the acquisition of necessary services. Should a student appear in need of or seek assistance with issues of an emotional, behavioral, or mental health related matter they should be referred to the proper service within the Student Health Center. In situations where the student creates an impression that they are a danger to themselves or others, the advisor should immediately contact the Care Team, the Dean of Students or the appropriate law enforcement agency. The employee outside of those rights contained within FERPA should create no impression of client or patient confidentiality


Additional Information: Due to the nature of the position and/or responsibilities, in times of emergencies and/or University closures, this position is considered operations essential. It may be required to assist the Office of Communications on necessary communications matters in times of crisis, including potentially working with LSU's Emergency Operations Center during those times.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education Level: Bachelor's

Years of Experience: Three or more years of professional work experience in one or more of the below experience areas.

Specific Experience: Marketing communications, social media management, digital content creation, advertising, project management, journalism, or a closely related area.


Degree Substitute: LSU values skills, experience, and expertise. Candidates who have relevant experience in key job responsibilities are encouraged to apply--a degree is not required as long as the candidate meets the required years of experience specified in the job description.
