Deputy Solution Architect – TS/SCI | Stafford, VA

We are currently seeking a Deputy Solution Architect to support operations in Stafford, VA, providing mission-focused architecture support for Naval Information Warfare Center Atlantic (NIWC Atlantic) and Marine Corps Systems Command (MCSC) enterprise IT systems. This is a full-time, CONUS position performed on-site in Stafford, VA Government spaces, with up to 15% travel outside the local area. An active DoD TS/SCI security clearance is required.

The base salary range for this role is $135,000.00 to $143,000.00 annually, depending on geographic location and experience. The final offer will be based on relevant experience, skills, internal equity, and market data.

What You’ll Do
As a Deputy Solution Architect, you will help bridge mission requirements with secure enterprise IT infrastructure by leveraging SAFe expertise and knowledge of the Marine Corps Enterprise Network (MCEN) to support a high-cadence System-of-Systems architecture. You will:

• Manage Solution Intent by documenting, maintaining, and validating the technical baseline.
• Track traceability by connecting mission capabilities and technical enablers directly to MCEN compliance requirements.
• Guide solution architectures to support seamless interoperability across enterprise portfolios.
•  Identify and design infrastructure, cybersecurity, platforms, and other technical enablers required for future capabilities.
• Collaborate with Program Managers, Release Train Engineers (RTEs), and Enterprise Architects to align technical solutions with strategic goals.
• Assist in developing Program Increment (PI) and multi-PI technical roadmaps.
• Refine and prepare backlogs by ensuring backlog items meet established quality definitions before PI Planning ceremonies.
• Provide day-to-day data preparation and administrative support to the Lead Solution Architect.
• Translate high-level architectural concepts into actionable backlog structures.
• Support capability decomposition and maintain visibility of technical dependencies and runway.

What You’ll Bring
Required Qualifications:
Must be proficient in using computers, enterprise architecture tools, collaboration platforms, and other technologies pertinent to the position.

• Education & Experience:
  • Master’s degree in a quantitative field such as engineering or mathematics, including Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or Information Systems, plus 10 years of relevant professional experience; OR an ABET-accredited Bachelor’s degree in a qualifying quantitative field plus 14 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Experience must include research, design, and development of computer and network software or specialized utility programs, including database maintenance within an application area, as applicable.
  • Experience applying programming concepts in a professional or academic setting and applying modern software development methodologies such as Agile, DevOps, or DevSecOps.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in IT systems architecture, engineering, and integration, with significant experience supporting USMC, Naval, or DoD enterprise environments.
• Technical Expertise:
  • Strong experience with solution architecture, enterprise IT infrastructure, systems integration, and System-of-Systems environments.
  • Knowledge of the Marine Corps Enterprise Network (MCEN), SAFe practices, technical baselines, traceability, capability decomposition, and technical roadmapping.
  • Experience with Program Increment (PI) Planning, backlog refinement, Agile/DevOps/DevSecOps methodologies, and collaboration with PMs, RTEs, and Enterprise Architects.
  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity, infrastructure, platforms, interoperability, and technical dependencies in DoD enterprise environments.
• Clearance:
  • Must have a current and active DoD TS/SCI security clearance.

• Certified SAFe® Architect (ARCH) or equivalent
• SAFe® Solution Train Engineer (STE) or SAFe® Practice Consultant (SPC)
• CISSP or CISM
• Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert or Azure DevOps Engineer Expert
• CCNP Enterprise / CCIE Enterprise Infrastructure or equivalent expert-level transport networking certification
• Formal DoDAF Framework training or TOGAF certification
• INCOSE CSEP
• CCZT or vendor-specific Zero Trust training
• DevSecOps Foundation or Certified DevSecOps Professional (CDP)
• CDMP or foundational Cloud Data Architect training

Travel Requirements

• Up to 15% travel outside the local area by motor vehicle and/or air travel may be required; some overnight stays may be possible.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

• Periods of prolonged sitting and/or standing, including desk-based computer work.
• Travel between company offices, customer sites, and government installations.
• Occasional extended work hours, including evenings or weekends, as needed.
• Transport and use of work equipment, such as laptops, during site visits.
• Work is performed in secure government facilities where personal electronic devices may be restricted.
• Work may be performed in office, customer, and government environments subject to applicable site requirements.
• Regular exposure to indoor and outdoor conditions during travel between work locations.
• Physical activities may include bending, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling materials, consistent with established one-person lift guidelines.
• Use of computers, office equipment, and job-related tools as required for the role.
• Communication with team members, customers, and stakeholders through verbal and written methods.
• Ability to manage competing priorities, work under deadlines, and maintain attention to detail.
• Interaction with others in dynamic environments, including situations requiring problem-solving and conflict resolution.
• Compliance with applicable medical or travel requirements for domestic travel, as required by governing authorities.
