The Strategic Business Developer will drive growth for Generac’s Commercial & Industrial Battery Energy Storage and Microgrid business by leading sales strategy, developing key customer and channel relationships, and converting opportunities into successful deals. This role will champion value-based energy solutions, build a strong sales pipeline, and partner across the organization to bring customer and market insights into product development, positioning, and support strategies.
Major Responsibilities:
Drive Market Growth: Leverage market, field, and end-user insights to shape product positioning, development, customer support, pricing strategies, and overall business growth.
Grow Strategic Accounts: Develop and strengthen relationships with key customers and industry stakeholders, expanding existing and new product sales through executive-level engagement and strategic account development.
Lead Marketing & Industry Engagement: Partner with Marketing to execute market development and branding strategies while representing the company at industry events, trade shows, customer meetings, and site visits.
Optimize Business Performance: Establish goals, budgets, KPIs, and operating plans; monitor customer profitability, pricing, competitive activity, and performance metrics to drive continuous improvement and achieve financial objectives.
Lead & Develop Teams: Provide strategic and operational leadership to cross-functional teams, including talent development, performance management, succession planning, and aligning team objectives with broader business strategy.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements:
Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
Minimum of 5 years of experience supervising sales teams
Strong understanding of internal processes and systems, with proven experience in complex account management, business planning, budgeting, P&L ownership, and financial analysis.
Demonstrated success in strategic and complex selling, with advanced negotiation skills and the ability to develop and manage high-value customer relationships.
Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills, with strong organizational abilities, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently in an entrepreneurial environment.
Preferred Job Requirements:
10+ years of commercial, applications, product experience in distributed power generation industry across a variety of generation and storage products and technologies, including but not limited to generators, battery energy storage systems, solar PV, paralleling switchgear, integrated paralleling and microgrid controls etc.
Direct sales leadership experience (5+ years) in the power generation industry with proven track record of growth
Experience value selling energy systems solutions to various commercial and industrial customers – e.g. microgrids, BESS & PV systems, cogeneration/CHP, bridge power solutions
Strong understanding of distributed power and energy markets, including dealer/distributor channels, end-user dynamics, products, applications, and solutions across the U.S. and Canada.
Proven ability to lead and develop high-performing sales teams, establish KPIs and performance metrics, manage deal pipelines and forecasts, and drive bookings and revenue growth.
Effective collaborator with product, applications, engineering, operations, supply chain, and service teams, with experience managing complex negotiations and supporting successful project execution.
Hands-on, entrepreneurial leader with a strong bias for action, adaptability, resilience, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in fast-paced, changing, and ambiguous environments.
