As an Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Engineer, you will lead the implementation, management, and continuous improvement of workplace health and safety programs to ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and corporate requirements. You will play a key role in fostering a culture of safety, protecting employees, reducing workplace risks, and supporting environmental, health, and safety initiatives across the organization. This position partners closely with leadership, medical services, government agencies, and cross-functional teams to maintain a safe and compliant work environment.
Your Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, monitor, and continuously improve Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) programs and initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with applicable legal, regulatory, and corporate health and safety requirements.
- Participate in Occupational Health and Safety Committees and support compliance with local and international standards, including ISO 45001.
- Plan, coordinate, and deliver safety training and awareness programs for employees.
- Lead accident prevention initiatives, risk reduction programs, workplace inspections, and safety improvement projects.
- Evaluate workplace hazards and determine appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements.
- Coordinate occupational medical surveillance programs in partnership with medical services based on employee risk exposure.
- Conduct regular facility inspections to verify compliance and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Manage and support internal and external health and safety audits, ensuring effective corrective actions are implemented.
- Develop, maintain, and communicate EHS policies, procedures, and guidelines throughout the organization.
- Partner with government agencies and industry associations to stay informed of regulatory changes and ensure legal compliance.
- Advise management and operational teams on safety requirements for existing operations and new projects.
- Develop and maintain key EHS performance indicators, reporting progress and improvement opportunities to leadership.
- Lead employee engagement initiatives focused on health, safety, environmental awareness, Near Miss reporting, and Kaizen activities.
- Promote a proactive safety culture while supporting quality, environmental, and energy management objectives.
Your Background
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Occupational Safety Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Master's degree in Occupational Health & Safety is preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) roles within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of occupational health and safety laws, regulations, and compliance requirements.
- Experience implementing and maintaining Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems, including ISO 45001.
- Solid technical knowledge of workplace safety, risk assessment, accident prevention, and hazard control methodologies.
- Experience supporting government inspections, audits, and regulatory reporting activities.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively across all organizational levels and external agencies.
- Excellent organizational, planning, and independent decision-making skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications.
- Knowledge of STPS platforms and regulatory systems.
- Bilingual communication skills (English and Spanish).
- Demonstrated ability to influence safety culture, drive continuous improvement, and promote employee engagement in EHS initiatives.
- Ability to identify risks, escalate concerns appropriately, and take action to protect employee safety, product quality, environmental performance, and energy efficiency.
