Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Communications Switchboard Coordinator, you will help the communications team and hospital departments so they can provide seamless, high-quality connectivity and support for our patients, staff, and providers. Every day you will oversee all switchboard operations and provide direct leadership to our Communications Operators. You will be expected to train staff, coordinate with IT to maintain essential communication systems and software, and analyze operational data to drive performance improvements. To be successful in this role, you must possess strong leadership abilities, technical proficiency with communications equipment, and a proven track record of fostering a positive, service-oriented environment.

  • Operations Oversight: Manage the telephone switchboard and communications staff across all locations, ensuring 24/7 service delivery and seamless communication between providers and patients
  • Team Leadership: Direct daily operations, including staff scheduling, setting performance goals, providing constructive feedback, and facilitating professional development
  • Training & Customer Excellence: Lead in-house training on communication standards and customer service, while implementing strategies to improve overall satisfaction for internal and external stakeholders
  • System & Directory Management: Collaborate with IT to oversee essential communication infrastructure—including phones, pagers, and hospital directories—to ensure reliable functionality
  • Cross-Departmental Coordination: Manage complex on-call schedules and serve as the primary liaison between departments to resolve service complaints and maintain continuity of care
  • Strategic Administration: Lead departmental meetings, maintain accurate documentation, and proactively pursue personal and professional growth to align with organizational goals

Job Requirements

Required 

 

  • High School graduate or equivalent AND minimum of 1 year experience in the discipline, OR 5+ years of directly related work experience
  • Any certifications/education as required by the department
  • Strong knowledge of switchboard operations and organizational communication strategies; excellent time management and record keeping skills; working understanding of switchboard and other telecommunications systems; excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to present complex issues in understandable manner; fluent in software applications and Google office suite applications

 

Preferred 

 

  • Previous supervisory experience
