About the Client

Our client is a leading distributor of fasteners and Class-C components, serving automotive, heavy truck, military, and industrial markets across the U.S. and Mexico. They leverage advanced supply chain solutions—including Vendor Managed Inventory, kitting, and custom logistics—combined with ISO-certified quality and operational excellence. Our client partners with large-scale manufacturers to streamline procurement, reduce costs, and deliver reliable, end-to-end materials management solutions.

About the Role

The PPAP Technician is responsible for assembling and submitting Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) documentation packages in accordance with AIAG standards and customer-specific requirements. Working in close coordination with the company's U.S.-based quality team, the mission of this role is to achieve final customer approval of PPAPs for new and existing parts supplied by our client, supporting seamless program launches, supplier qualification, and ongoing production releases. The PPAP Technician serves as the primary documentation coordinator between global suppliers, the internal quality team, and end customers throughout the PPAP lifecycle.

What You'll Do:
  • PPAP Package Development & Submission
    • Compile and assemble complete PPAP documentation packages per AIAG Current Edition standards, including all applicable elements based on customer-specified submission level (Levels 1–5).
    • Coordinate with domestic and overseas suppliers to collect required documentation including dimensional reports, material certifications, process flow diagrams, control plans, FMEAs, appearance approval reports, etc.
    • Prepare and submit Part Submission Warrants (PSW) when required, ensuring accuracy of all supporting documentation prior to customer submission.
    • Manage customer-specific PPAP requirements and portals (e.g., etq Reliance, Volvo, etc.), adapting submissions to meet unique format or content expectations.
  • Customer Interface & Approval Tracking
    • Track PPAP submission status through the PPAP Tracking Log, customer portals and direct communication, actively driving toward final approval within required program timing.
    • Respond to customer requests for additional information, corrected documentation, or re-submission, coordinating internally with supply chain and quality teams.
    • Maintain the PPAP Tracking Log of all active and completed PPAP submissions, tracking submission dates, approval status, and open actions.
    • Communicate PPAP approval status updates to program managers, sales, purchasing, and operations stakeholders.
    • Maintain ongoing and complete PPAP electronic documentation in Quality files.
  • Supplier Coordination & Development
    • Work closely with global fastener and component suppliers to educate, guide, and support their preparation of PPAP documentation to required standards.
    • Coordinate with Purchasing to issue requests for PPAP documentation to suppliers, set expectations for timelines, and follow up to ensure on-time delivery of complete packages.
    • Evaluate supplier-provided documents for compliance with AIAG requirements and customer-specific standards before integrating into final submissions to customers.
    • Provide approval documentation back to suppliers.
    • Support supplier corrective actions related to PPAP deficiencies or customer-raised concerns.
  • IMDS Submissions & Material Compliance
    • Create, complete, and submit International Material Data System (IMDS) records for new and changed parts, ensuring material declarations are accurate and submitted prior to or concurrent with PPAP approval.
    • Coordinate with suppliers to obtain and verify IMDS data, ensuring all sub-components and raw materials are properly declared and traceable within the IMDS module hierarchy.
    • Review IMDS submissions for compliance with customer threshold requirements, GADSL (Global Automotive Declarable Substance List) restrictions, and applicable environmental regulations including ELV, RoHS, and REACH.
    • Resolve IMDS rejection notices from customers by correcting material data, updating module structures, or working with suppliers to resubmit accurate submissions to Bamal.
    • Maintain internal records of IMDS submission status, MDS IDs, and customer acceptance confirmations as part of the overall PPAP package documentation.
    • Complete any additional required documentation (Full Material Declarations, etc.)
  • Documentation, Systems & Continuous Improvement
    • Maintain an accurate and accessible PPAP documentation, ensuring all records (including approval) are retained per customer and regulatory requirements.
    • Identify and recommend improvements to internal PPAP processes, templates, and workflows to improve efficiency and first-pass approval rates.
    • Support internal quality audits and customer assessments involving PPAP records as required.
    • Stay current on AIAG standard revisions and evolving customer-specific requirements; disseminate updates internally as appropriate.

What You Bring:
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Technology, or a related technical discipline preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of technical training and directly relevant work experience will be considered.
  • Minimum 2–4 years of experience in a quality or manufacturing engineering role with direct responsibility for PPAP submissions in an automotive, fastener, or metal components environment.
  • Demonstrated experience working with AIAG PPAP elements and documentation requirements, including FMEA, Control Plans, and APQP processes.
  • Experience with steel fasteners, cold-formed components, or related hardware products strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with automotive OEM or Tier 1 supplier quality management systems and customer-specific requirements is a significant advantage.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and specifications to confirm required documentation is present and complete.
  • Working familiarity with AIAG core tools including PPAP, Process Flow Diagrams, FMEA, Control Plans, MSA, etc. at a document review level.
  • Competency with Microsoft Office suite; experience with quality management software or customer PPAP portals (e.g. etq Reliance, Volvo, etc.) is a plus.
  • Understanding of fastener standards and specifications (e.g., SAE, DIN, ISO, ASME) is an asset.

Competencies & Attributes
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent PPAP submissions across various programs and customers.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to documentation accuracy and completeness before submission.
  • Effective communicator — able to interact professionally with customers, suppliers, and internal teams in written and verbal form.
  • Self-directed and proactive in following up on open items to drive PPAP approvals to closure on schedule.
  • Collaborative mindset, comfortable working across supply chain, quality, sales, and operations functions.

Preferred Certifications
  • AIAG PPAP, APQP training or certification.
  • ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), Certified Quality Technician (CQT), or equivalent.
  • IATF 16949 or ISO 9001 internal auditor training is a plus.
