At Jimcor Agencies, we believe the best way to learn the insurance industry is through meaningful, hands-on experience.
 
Our Summer Internship Program gives motivated college students the opportunity to work alongside experienced insurance professionals, gain exposure to the excess and surplus lines marketplace, and develop a practical understanding of commercial property and casualty underwriting.
 
As an intern, you will do more than observe. You will contribute to real underwriting workflows, explore carrier relationships, participate in professional training, and see how an insurance account moves through the complete policy lifecycle, from submission and quoting through binding, issuance, and servicing.
 
Gain Real-World Underwriting Experience
The eight-week program is designed to build a strong foundation in specialty insurance through structured mentorship, comprehensive training, and practical experience.
 
Throughout the summer, interns will have opportunities to:

• Support new business submissions and the renewal process
• Organize and index policy documentation
• Shadow experienced underwriters during quoting and risk assessment
• Review inspection reports and understand when inspections are required
• Explore binding authority and wholesale brokerage operations
• Gain exposure to endorsements, cancellations, reinstatements, non-renewals, and policy issuance
• Research carrier appetites, underwriting guides, hit lists, and carrier portals
• Participate in sales meetings, carrier discussions, and Workflow Wednesday sessions
• Learn about E&S regulations and stamping requirements in key states, including New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania
• Collaborate with underwriting, binding, brokerage, and operations professionals across the organization
• Complete a simulated policy lifecycle exercise covering binding, issuance, endorsements, and cancellation

 
Interns may also receive exposure to London market contracts and exclusions, depending on scheduling and program availability.
 
Learn from Experienced Insurance Professionals
Every intern will work with an assigned mentor or underwriting manager who will provide guidance, answer questions, and help connect classroom knowledge with real-world insurance operations.
 
Through job shadowing, guided assignments, and team collaboration, interns will learn how underwriters:

• Review and evaluate commercial risks
• Identify missing or incomplete submission information
• Make informed quoting and placement decisions
• Work with insurance carriers and retail agents
• Manage accounts throughout the policy lifecycle
• Balance risk selection, customer service, documentation, and underwriting guidelines

 
The program is designed to help students build professional confidence while gaining a clearer understanding of potential career paths in underwriting, brokerage, and specialty insurance.
 
Professional Training and Development
Education is an important part of the Jimcor internship experience. Interns will complete assigned training through Litmos, Jimcor University, and USLI’s Fundamental First Course.
Interns will also attend internal meetings and learning sessions that provide insight into current market conditions, carrier relationships, business operations, and Jimcor’s book of business.
 
Who We’re Looking For
The Jimcor Summer Internship Program is designed for motivated students who are curious about the insurance industry and eager to learn in a professional, collaborative environment.
 
Candidates should:

• Be pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Risk Management and Insurance, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field
• Have completed at least one year of undergraduate coursework
• Possess strong written and verbal communication skills
• Be organized, detail-oriented, and dependable
• Demonstrate analytical thinking, initiative, and professional judgment
• Be comfortable using Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and Teams
• Be able to work independently and collaboratively
• Be available to work on-site in Jimcor’s Montvale, New Jersey office for the duration of the program

 
Coursework or demonstrated interest in property and casualty insurance or the E&S marketplace is preferred. Membership in Gamma Iota Sigma or a similar risk management and insurance organization is also beneficial but not required.

Interns will earn $18-$20 per hour, based on their field of study, work experience, and/or affiliation with an insurance organization.
