Definition of Responsibility
The Family Support Services Social Worker serves under the general direction of the Family Services Coordinator. This position requires a dedicated and skilled Family Services Social Worker to support families involved in family law matters. This position conducts needs assessments, identifies custody and access barriers, and provides professional recommendations to the Court. The Family Services Social Worker also plays a key role in service delivery at the Visitation Center of Baltimore County (VCBC), including client orientations, scheduling, and coordination of on-site services. This is a full-time, grant-funded position.
Essential Job Duties- Assess family needs and identify obstacles to safe custody or access in family law cases.
- Conducts home assessments and background investigations, preparing accurate, comprehensive reports for the Court.
- Provides expert witness testimony as needed.
- Provides client orientations, scheduling assistance, and general support for families utilizing the Visitation Center.
- Collaborates with Court personnel, attorneys, and partner agencies to ensure effective and timely service delivery.
- Maintains detailed documentation, case files, and service records according to Court standards and guidelines.
Performs other assigned duties or tasks as required.
Plus
Two years of social work experience in a family-related practice area.
Preferred Qualifications
LCSW-C license with diagnostic experience in substance abuse, domestic violence, mental health, or other family-related fields. Prefer a creative, motivated professional with program development experience to enhance the services offered at the Visitation Center of Baltimore County
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of Federal, State, and local laws, regulations, procedures, and guidelines related to family services.
- Basic knowledge of family law procedures and available family support services.
- Knowledge of child development, substance abuse, intimate partner violence, mental illness and family systems.
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and promptly follow up on Visitation Center referrals and program needs.
- Ability to work outside of court hours when necessary
- Skill in evaluating family dynamics, preparing accurate reports, and providing expert witness testimony when required.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Excellent writing skills and attention to detail.
