Position Summary
The Warehouse Lead supports daily warehouse operations and provides hands-on direction to warehouse employees. This position is responsible for coordinating workflow, maintaining accurate inventory, ensuring orders are received and prepared correctly, and promoting a safe, organized, and efficient work environment. The Warehouse Lead serves as a point of contact for the warehouse team and assists management with meeting operational and customer-service expectations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate the daily activities of warehouse employees.
- Assign work and monitor progress to ensure operational priorities and deadlines are met.
- Receive, inspect, document, store, pick, pack, and stage materials and equipment.
- Verify incoming and outgoing shipments for accuracy, condition, and proper documentation.
- Maintain accurate inventory records and assist with cycle counts and physical inventory.
- Investigate and report inventory discrepancies, damaged materials, and shipping or receiving issues.
- Ensure customer orders, transfers, and deliveries are completed accurately and on time.
- Maintain an organized, clean, and safe warehouse and yard.
- Ensure employees follow company policies, safety procedures, and proper material-handling practices.
- Conduct or assist with daily safety meetings and equipment inspections.
- Train and support new and existing warehouse employees on procedures, systems, and equipment.
- Monitor employee productivity, attendance, and performance and communicate concerns to management.
- Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other warehouse equipment safely.
- Coordinate with sales, operations, drivers, and branch leadership to support customer needs.
- Assist with loading and unloading trucks and securing materials for transportation.
- Recommend improvements to warehouse processes, organization, safety, and efficiency.
- Report workplace incidents, equipment damage, and safety concerns immediately.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position provides daily work direction and training to warehouse employees but may not have direct authority over hiring, termination, compensation, or formal disciplinary decisions. The Warehouse Lead is expected to promptly communicate performance or conduct concerns to management.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Previous warehouse, shipping and receiving, inventory, or distribution experience required.
- Prior lead or supervisory experience preferred.
- Experience within the oil and gas, pipeline, industrial supply, PVF, or heavy-equipment industry preferred.
- Forklift certification required or the ability to obtain certification.
- Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record may be required.
- Basic computer skills and experience using inventory or warehouse-management systems.
- Ability to read shipping documents, work orders, purchase orders, and inventory records.
- Strong leadership, communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prioritize assignments and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to customer service.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to regularly stand, walk, bend, kneel, reach, push, and pull.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds independently and heavier materials with assistance or appropriate equipment.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures and weather conditions.
- Ability to safely operate warehouse equipment and work around moving vehicles, machinery, and industrial materials.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment.
Work Schedule
This position generally works a full-time schedule. Overtime, weekends, early mornings, or schedule changes may be required based on business and customer needs.
