The Transportation Driver is responsible for the safe, timely, and courteous transport of physically limited patients and participants to and from medical facilities, day centers, and other approved destinations using a company-owned specialty vehicle. The role requires knowledge of safe patient handling, transfer techniques, basic medical equipment, and defensive driving practices. The Driver supports organizational mission, values, and patient-centered care principles.Key Responsibilities
- Safely transport patients and participants using defensive driving techniques.
- Assist passengers on and off the vehicle using proper body mechanics and approved transfer techniques.
- Operate specialty vehicles and ensure cleanliness and safety of the transport environment.
- Follow established schedules and adjust routes to accommodate changes while maintaining efficiency and safety.
- Utilize communication systems (phone, radio, routing tools) to coordinate transportation activities.
- Interact professionally with patients, families, caregivers, and healthcare staff.
- Participate as a member of the interdisciplinary care team, reporting changes or concerns appropriately.
- Respond appropriately to medical equipment needs or emergencies during transport.
- Maintain vehicle readiness and report or document maintenance issues.
- Represent the organization with professionalism, integrity, and excellent customer service.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Education & Experience
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum one year experience transporting elderly, disabled, or medically fragile individuals preferred.
- Knowledge of local/metro area preferred.
- Healthcare or patient transport experience desirable.
Licensure & Certifications
- Valid state driver’s license with clean driving record.
- Current CPR certification (First Aid/AED preferred).
- Auto insurance as required by state regulations.
- Completion of required dementia or population-specific training, as applicable by program/state.
Physical Requirements
- Frequent standing and walking; intermittent sitting.
- Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and push wheeled loads up to 400 lbs with assistance.
- Ability to bend, squat, kneel, reach, and climb stairs as needed.
- Sufficient visual and hearing acuity to safely operate vehicles, use mobile devices, and complete documentation.
Work Environment & Emotional Demands
- Work performed primarily inside vehicles and healthcare facilities with occasional outdoor exposure.
- Exposure to varying temperatures, communicable diseases, and medical environments.
- Ability to remain focused amid noise, distractions, and time-sensitive demands.
- Ability to maintain professionalism and self-control in tense or challenging situations.
- Work hours are scheduled to be 11am-8pm, but can vary based on activity.

Compensation Pay Range:
