Description
The mission of the Solutions team at SMX is to help federal agencies modernize their enterprise planning and reporting processes through innovative technology solutions that improve transparency, efficiency, and decision-making. We are seeking a highly motivated and talented Junior Software Developer to join our dynamic team. This is an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge cloud technology and grow your career by contributing to impactful software projects, including the development of AI-infused applications. The ideal candidate is passionate about technology, eager to learn, and excited by the opportunity to develop an understanding of both the technical and functional aspects of enterprise applications. You will play an important role in bridging technical implementation with the business processes that shape our solutions, delivering meaningful value to our federal customers.
This is a full-time position that is 100% remote and require minimal travel <10%.
Key Responsibilities
- Software Development and Coding:
- Collaborate with senior developers and cross-functional teams to design, develop, test, and deploy cloud-native software solutions on platforms like AWS.
- Write clean, efficient, reusable, and maintainable code following software development best practices.
- Develop new features, enhancements, and software improvement, with opportunities to work on AI-driven capabilities.
- Participate in code reviews and incorporate feedback to improve code quality.
- Troubleshoot and resolve software defects and technical issues.
- Problem Solving and Continuous Improvement:
- Analyze technical challenges and develop effective solutions with guidance from experienced team members.
- Research and evaluate new technologies, tools, and approaches such as serverless computing, containerization, and new AI frameworks to enhance development processes.
- Demonstrate a proactive approach to identifying issues and recommending solutions.
- Collaboration and Teamwork:
- Work closely with developers, product managers, business stakeholders, and other team members to deliver high-quality software solutions.
- Communicate effectively regarding progress, challenges, and technical solutions.
- Learning and Adaptation:
- Continuously expand technical skills by learning new programming languages, frameworks, cloud technologies, and development practices.
- Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies.
- Seek feedback, embrace new challenges, and apply lessons learned to improve technical capabilities.
- Documentation and Development Practices:
- Create and maintain technical documentation, including code documentation, processes, and workflows.
- Follow established coding standards, DevSecOps practices, and software development lifecycle (SDLC) processes.
- Contribute to team knowledge sharing and continuous improvement efforts.
Required Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent technical experience.
- Familiarity with web development technologies, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and modern web frameworks.
- Experience using version control systems such as Git.
- Understanding of software development lifecycle concepts, including requirements, development, testing, and deployment.
- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to quickly learn new technologies.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate in a team environment.
- A self-starter mindset with the ability to take initiative, adapt to changing priorities, and demonstrate a commitment to continuous learning and growth.
Desired Skills & Experience
- Experience working collaboratively on software development teams.
- Experience with cloud platforms, particularly Amazon Web Services (AWS).
- Familiarity with cloud-native technologies and services, such as AWS Lambda, Amazon Redshift and DynamoDB.
- Interest in artificial intelligence and emerging technologies, including exposure to Amazon Bedrock and other AI platforms.
- Knowledge of database technologies such as MySQL, Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or similar relational databases.
- Familiarity with APIs, application integration, and modern software architecture concepts.
- Experience with Agile development methodologies.
- Familiarity with CI/CD practices and software deployment processes.
