Job Title: Head Nurse – Cath-Lab Unit
Department: Nursing Department
Reports To: Chief Nursing Officer
Job Summary
The Head Nurse for the Cath-Lab Unit is responsible for the day-to-day operational management, staffing, and long-term clinical planning of the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory. This role ensures high-quality, patient-centered care by leading and mentoring nursing staff, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, maintaining compliance with hospital policies and quality standards, and managing departmental resources efficiently.
Key Responsibilities
- Clinical & Operational Leadership: Directs daily unit operations, conducts shift rounds, manages patient assignments based on acuity, and ensures smooth handover processes (including narcotics/controlled substances).
- Patient & Quality Care: Assesses nursing care needs, enforces safety and infection control protocols, monitors unit KPIs, and investigates occurrences or complaints to drive continuous quality improvement.
- Staff Management & Development: Conducts orientation, in-service training, and annual performance evaluations for nursing staff while fostering a collaborative environment with physicians and allied health teams.
- Resource & Administrative Management: Oversees inventory levels, medication expiry checks, time sheets/overtime, supply ordering, unit budget adherence, and billing approval follow-ups.
- Specialized Cath-Lab Competencies: Maintains clinical oversight for cardiac catheterization, peripheral arteriograms, temporary pacemakers, arterial pressure monitoring, sheath removal, cardiac rhythm identification, and radiation exposure documentation.
Job Requirements
- Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or a 3-year Diploma in Nursing and Midwifery.
- Licensure & Certifications:
- Active license/certification by SCFHS (Specialist) and passed Prometric exam.
- Current MOH License.
- Active BLS and ACLS certifications.
- Current Conscious Sedation certification.
- Active license/certification by SCFHS (Specialist) and passed Prometric exam.
- Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of relevant nursing experience in a Cath-Lab or critical care setting.
- Skills: Proficiency in English, strong organizational and communication skills, and computer literacy (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
