Intermountain Health is seeking skilled Registered Nurses to join our House Resource RN team. This unique role offers the opportunity to provide house-wide clinical support, respond to critical patient needs, assist with patient flow, and partner with nursing leaders to ensure safe, efficient, and exceptional care delivery across the hospital.

About the House Resource RN Role

The House Resource RN serves as an experienced clinical expert who supports hospital operations through real-time problem solving, patient flow coordination, clinical escalation, and caregiver support. Working closely with House Supervisors, charge nurses, case management, and interdisciplinary teams, you'll help ensure patients receive timely, safe, and high-quality care throughout their hospitalization. 

This role requires exceptional critical thinking, strong communication skills, clinical versatility, and the ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities. You'll support multiple units and patient populations while serving as a valuable resource for bedside caregivers and leadership teams. 

Whether assisting during a rapid response, facilitating patient throughput, mentoring staff, or supporting quality and safety initiatives, you'll play a vital role in maintaining operational excellence across the hospital. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide hospital-wide nursing support to promote patient safety, clinical excellence, and efficient patient flow.
  • Respond to urgent clinical concerns, patient deterioration events, rapid responses, and resuscitations as appropriate.
  • Assist with admissions, transfers, discharges, and bed placement coordination.
  • Support clinical teams with patient assessments, procedures, medication administration, and other patient care needs within scope and competency.
  • Collaborate with House Supervisors, charge nurses, physicians, and interdisciplinary teams to address operational and clinical priorities.
  • Identify barriers to patient flow and contribute to real-time problem solving.
  • Provide coaching, mentorship, and clinical support to nursing staff.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives, audits, and patient safety activities.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation while promoting adherence to organizational policies and standards.
  • Serve as a trusted clinical resource and advocate for patients, families, and caregivers.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current RN license in the state of practice. Valid compact licenses must be transferred to the state of practice within 60 days of employment.
  • Minimum one (1) year of acute care RN experience.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification for Healthcare Providers.
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN). Education must be obtained from an accredited institution and will be verified.
  • RNs with less than 12 months of experience must obtain their Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) within four (4) years of their hire date.

* Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is required as of the job description's last update on 4/27/2025. Employees hired or promoted prior to this date will be held to the minimum requirements that were in place at the time of their promotion or hire.

Required Certifications & Clinical Readiness:

Caregivers in this role must maintain an active RN license and renew required certifications prior to expiration, including:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
  • TCAR (Trauma Care After Resuscitation)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Critical Care, Progressive Care, Emergency Department, House Supervisor, Rapid Response, Float Pool, or other advanced acute care nursing experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership, critical thinking, and clinical decision-making skills.
  • Experience supporting multiple patient populations and hospital departments.
  • Strong communication, prioritization, and conflict-resolution abilities.
  • Previous experience serving as a mentor, preceptor, or clinical resource.

Physical Requirements

  • Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
  • Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
  • Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
  • Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
  • Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.)
  • May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
  • For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.
