Job Objective:

Responsible for directing the successful development, implementation and growth of the orthopedic service line, resulting in high quality outcomes, cost effective performance and increases in volume/market share. Serves as an administrative liaison for orthopedic services activities, projects and programs. Works closely with executive leadership, financial planning and key medical leadership regarding technology, identifying avenues for increased revenue and reimbursement, and controlling overall cost in each area. Responsible for planning, organizing, controlling, directing and staffing of department workforce, materials, technology information and financial resources to provide quality care in all areas. Represents the health system in all department-related activities. Maintains active communication among medical staff, interdepartmental directors and staff.  

Job Description:

Education: Required: Masters degree or higher Licensure/Certification: N/A Experience: Required: Seven (7) to ten (10) years of experience in progressive leadership roles in a comprehensive orthopedic service line business

Reports To: Matrix reporting structure as follows: Direct Line to EVP/COO for overall service line activity for both inpatient and outpatient services, Dotted Line to VP Ambulatory Services for EDOC clinic operations, Dotted Line to VP Patient Care Services (CNO) for nursing related service/issues, Dotted Line to Desert Orthopedic Center’s Physician Board
Supervises: Eisenhower Desert Orthopedic Center staff

Essential Responsibilities

1. Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies, and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations. 2. Creates programs and/or initiatives for attaining and maintaining high patient satisfaction scores in all clinical cost centers. 3. Effectively engages stakeholders to develop and execute service line business strategy and achieve performance objectives. In collaboration with service line physicians, managers and executive leadership, develop goals, objectives and metrics for all cardiovascular programs and services. 4. In collaboration with service line physicians and administrative leadership establish, implement, and maintain policies and procedures for all service line departments. 5. Works collaboratively with health system Quality Leadership and service line physicians to create the annual quality plan. 6. Plans and implements process improvement strategies that ensure high levels of quality and patient safety. 7. Oversees LEAN initiatives and fosters involvement of all constituents in rapid improvement events. 8. Develops annual budget in conjunction with senior leadership to ensure efficiency, productivity, and sufficient financial resources to meet all goals and objectives of the service line. 9. Monitors operational budget/actual results to ensure adequate cost control and to maximize revenue. 10. In collaboration with physicians, executive leadership and key stakeholders, creates annual capital plan and makes recommendations for capital purchases. 11. Establishes strong relationships with service line medical leadership, departmental managers, health system colleagues, and executive leadership and ensures effective lines of communication with all constituents. 12. Partners with clinical leadership, executive leadership, and the Marketing and Public Relations Department to understand, evaluate and identify market opportunities that lead to growth and development of the service line. 13. Actively participates in physician recruitment and retention strategies. 14. Directs the analysis of key operational and financial outcomes including: ALOS, case mix, ambulatory and hospital utilization, cost per case, etc., to recognize trends, evaluate departmental status, and in concert with strategic partners, make informed business recommendations and decisions. 15. Provides leadership in coordination of service line meetings: working with service line physicians, medical directors, and administrative managers to develop agendas, ensure concise meeting minutes, and coordinate any follow up activities that support the service line’s overall strategies. 16. Works collaboratively with the Finance Department to review current and future reimbursement trends and payor contracting strategies. 17. Partners with service line physicians, executive leadership, and the legal department in establishing annual Co-Management Agreement metrics; coordinates co-management meetings; monitors monthly and creates reports on co-management metrics. 18. Performs other duties as assigned.
