Description

The Office of Council Member Pearll Warren is seeking highly qualified candidates for the position of Policy Aide. This politically appointed position provides communications, research, engagement, and policy support to the Council Member.

The City of Minneapolis does not sponsor applicants for work visas.
  1. Working with the Council Member to advance their goals and strategies for the City, including Council-adopted strategic planning goals and ward-specific goals.
  2. Provide strategic advice and recommendations to the Council Member on policy initiatives, key decisions before the Council, constituent inquiries and concerns, and other projects.
  3. Move the Council Member’s initiatives through the public participation and policy-making process.
  4. Identify issues of common concern amongst constituents and across the City and convene interested parties to discuss potential solutions.
  5. Provide the Council Member with written and oral policy briefings necessary for meetings and decision-making.
  6. Build productive working relationships with the offices of City Council members and the Mayor, their staff, and city departments.
  7. Track the agendas of City Council Committees and pertinent Boards and Commissions and brief the Council Member on items of interest.
  8. Advise and direct the Council Associate to respond promptly to meeting requests and make proactive recommendations for the Council Member’s schedule.
  9. Advise and direct the Council Associate on constituent services and inquiries.
  10. Direct Council office external communications, including strategic messaging and talking points, press relations, and social media.
  11. Coordinate with City communications staff as appropriate to ensure that media inquiries are responded to in a timely manner by the appropriate person.
  12. Develop and produce a regular Council Office email newsletter to provide public updates on initiatives underway in the City and by the Council Member.
  13. Maintain and update content on the Council Member’s webpage.
  14. Keep the Council Member apprised of news coverage about issues and activities related to the Council Member and their agenda.
  15. Coordinate Council Member appointments to City boards and commissions.
  16. Provide advice and recommendations to the Council Member on community engagement strategy to advance their priorities.
  17. Serve as the Council Member’s representative and liaison to community groups, boards and commissions, other policy makers, and community stakeholders.
