Job Summary and Responsibilities
Provides financial counseling services for patients receiving or who have received services at the facility by administering hospital financial assistance programs. Responsible for counseling insured and uninsured patients regarding financial responsibility, estimating patient liability, supporting point‑of‑service and pre‑discharge collections, and assisting with payment plans in accordance with organizational policies. Responsible for identifying all sources of potential payers including auto-insurance, Workers' Compensation, commercial insurance, private insurance, third party liability (TPL), governmental insurance, etc. Acts as a liaison between patients, physicians, patient access teams, and external agencies. Completes, submits, and follows up on financial assistance and charity applications, maintaining accurate documentation and escalating approvals or exceptions as required.
- Counsel insured and uninsured patients regarding financial responsibility, estimated patient liability, and available financial assistance or payment options.
- Screens patients for eligibility for hospital financial assistance, charity care, foundation programs, and other programs.
- Complete, submit, and follow up on charity care and financial assistance applications to ensure timely eligibility determinations.
- Collect patient portions as applicable and assist patients with establishing approved payment plans in accordance with hospital policies.
- Coordinate with leadership as required for approval of payment plans or settlements based on established approval guidelines.
- Perform account adjustments or write‑offs in accordance with hospital financial assistance policies as deemed necessary
