  • Strengthen MoveOn’s culture rooted in equity, championing innovation and appropriate risk-taking in service of growing progressive political power.

  • Serve as a thought partner and sounding board to the Executive Director and other senior leaders, and as a resource for staff to raise ideas and concerns.

  • Lead a distributed, high-performing Operations Department, maintaining and improving the infrastructure, systems, and culture needed to manage staff across the United States.

Financial & Fiscal Oversight:

  • Lead the development of strategies for a financially solvent and sustainable organization, directing MoveOn's combined annual budget and reserves strategy to safeguard long-term financial health.

  • Lead and direct the establishment of operational and fiscal management structures, standards, systems, and best practices that build financial stewardship and accountability across MoveOn's entities.

  • Oversee the annual budgeting process across all entities, guiding the Finance & Operations Team in monitoring progress and resolving challenges.

  • Oversee grant management, guiding the Finance & Operations Team in its administration, deliverables, reporting, compliance, and cross-organizational coordination.

  • Oversee all income reporting to boards, staff, and stakeholders.

  • Build and conduct financial forecasting and analysis for future planning

  • Ensure the Senior Management Team, boards, budget holders, and other stakeholders receive accurate, relevant financial information, and articulate MoveOn's budget and accounting philosophy to internal and external audiences.

Team & Talent:

  • Oversee human resources and organizational development, ensuring human capital strategies align with MoveOn’s overarching vision and goals, and that organizational culture drives collaboration, alignment, adaptability, and shared success.

  • Translate the organization’s overarching vision and goals into operational strategies, including structural talent requirements, to ensure the right staffing levels and skill sets are in place.

  • Oversee talent retention strategies to ensure MoveOn attracts and retains top-tier talent and maintains a competitive edge in the movement.

  • Direct and support effective succession planning to ensure organizational continuity and resilience.

  • Along with other senior leadership, shape MoveOn’s culture by overseeing initiatives that promote employee engagement, diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA), and overall workforce well-being.

  • Direct the development and implementation of performance management frameworks, including performance evaluations, feedback systems, and leadership and management development programs.

  • Provide strategic leadership to future-proof MoveOn’s human resources and organizational development strategies and practices by ensuring people operations, talent strategies, and systems remain resilient, adaptable, and effective amid external disruptions.

  • Supervise the People Team to lead human resources and organizational development efforts, from talent planning and acquisition, talent management and development, total rewards, and offboarding to change management, culture-building, and team-building interventions that keep staff engaged.

Risk, Compliance & Legal:

  • Lead the organization's enterprise risk management program, directing the development of strategies to assess and mitigate organizational financial, operational, employment, and reputational risks.
