JOB DESCRIPTION - FIELD SERVICE ENGINEER I (Steel and Mining Industry)
POSITION SUMMARY
To succeed as a Field Service Engineer – Steel & Mining Industry, you must be willing to travel extensively to customer sites such as steel plants, mining operations, ports, and bulk material handling facilities. The role requires independent working capability, strong communication skills, and solid organizational abilities.
We are looking for a motivated individual with a Mechanical /Electrical engineering background, complemented by hands-on exposure to mechanical systems, particularly in industrial braking and hydraulic systems. The Field Service Engineer will be responsible for installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and aftermarket support of Service Brakes and Hydraulic Brake Systems for heavy-duty applications like cranes, conveyors, stackers/reclaimers, and other bulk handling equipment.
The candidate will work closely with the management and engineering team based in Pune, Maharashtra, and provide on-site support across India (and abroad if required).
Note:
- This role requires working at heights (on cranes, conveyor galleries, structures, etc.), and the candidate must be comfortable and trained for the same.
- Candidate from West Bengal region will be considered an added advantage.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Ability to travel extensively (up to 100%); Passport preferred
• Travel to customer sites including steel plants, mining sites, and ports to execute installation, commissioning, and service activities
• Perform installation, commissioning, testing, troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of:
• Industrial Service Brakes (e.g., Disc Brakes, Drum Brakes)
• Hydraulic Power Units (HPUs)
• Hydraulic and electro-hydraulic brake systems
• Ensure proper integration of braking systems with cranes, conveyors, and rotating equipment
• Work on elevated structures such as cranes, conveyor systems, and platforms
• Conduct:
• Electrical troubleshooting (control panels, sensors, feedback systems)
• Hydraulic troubleshooting (leakages, pressure settings, valve operations)
• Mechanical inspection and alignment of brake systems
• Interpret and work with electrical schematics, hydraulic circuits, GA drawings, and P&IDs
• Perform commissioning checks including:
• Functional testing of brakes and hydraulic systems
• Calibration of parameters such as pressure, torque, and response time
• Safety interlocks and fail-safe verification
• Complete service reports, commissioning reports, checklists, and hazard analyses
• Participate in company and customer HSE (Health, Safety & Environment) programs
• Deliver high-quality customer service and maintain strong customer relationships
• Follow standard work procedures and ensure compliance with site safety norms
• Maintain proper documentation and daily reporting
• Maintain tools, equipment, and a clean, safe working environment
• Pre-Service Preparation
• Review scope of work with internal engineering team
• Study manuals, drawings, and system specifications
• Gather necessary tools, consumables, and spares
• Coordinate with customer for site readiness
• On-Site Activities
• Supervise and execute installation of braking systems
• Verify mounting, alignment, and system integration
• Commission hydraulic and electrical systems
• Perform fault finding and corrective actions
• Conduct trial runs and performance validation
• Post-Service Activities
• Prepare detailed service and commissioning reports
• Recommend spare parts and maintenance plans
• Support spare parts sales and service contracts
• Provide customer training on operation and maintenance
• Support warranty, claims, and quality-related activities
• Develop and deliver training programs for customers
• Handle additional responsibilities as required in a dynamic work environment.
CRITICAL COMPETENCIES
• Strong electrical fundamentals with practical mechanical understanding Knowledge of:
• Industrial braking systems
• Hydraulic systems and components
• PLC-based control systems (basic level preferred)
• Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
• Customer-focused mindset with problem-solving ability
• Ability to work independently at remote sites
• Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
• Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
• Ability to handle deadlines and work under pressure
• Team collaboration and knowledge sharing.
QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Electrical engineering (preferred) or equivalent
• Candidates with electrical + mechanical exposure will be preferred
• Minimum 4–6 years of experience in:
• Industrial equipment servicing
• Steel plants / mining industry / heavy engineering
• Cranes, conveyors, or material handling systems
• Experience in brake systems, hydraulics, or rotating equipment is highly desirable
