Summary:

The RN, Staff DU (Designated Unit) is responsible for delivering competent, individualized nursing care to patients and families by utilizing the nursing process to augment the established medical plan of treatment within a specific clinical unit. Operating with a strong team orientation, this nurse integrates sound clinical judgment and evidence-based decision-making to address the unique needs and acuity of the unit’s patient population. The role emphasizes exceptional customer relations and professional communication, ensuring that care is delivered with both clinical precision and a high level of service excellence. By maintaining a focus on safety and collaborative practice, the RN Staff DU serves as a vital advocate for the patient while contributing to the overall effectiveness and specialized workflows of the designated clinical team.

Emergency Department Cook Children’s Emergency Department is a Level II trauma center, offering emergency surgical and specialty care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. There are four trauma rooms, 77 beds, and 10 triage areas. In a typical year, we treat more than 120,000 patients from birth to age 21. In this unit, you will be joined by an interdisciplinary staff including physicians, respiratory therapists, child-life therapists, and orthopedic and wound care technicians. In July 2021, the department received the coveted Lantern Award from the Emergency Nurses Association.

Shift: 7p - 7a

Half-Time, 24 hours per week

Education/Experience:

• 1 year of direct nursing experience required.
• Associate's in Nursing.

Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification:

• Active, unrestricted TX Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• BLS - American Heart Association.

Post hire Requirements:

• PALS or NRP and specialty certifications per unit guidelines.
