As part of the Identity and Access Management (IAM) team at First Citizens Bank, the Principal Information Security Engineer - IAM (Quality Assurance) will serve as the technical leader responsible for defining and driving the quality engineering strategy for enterprise IAM platforms and services.

This role requires deep expertise in IAM technologies, quality engineering, test automation, and cybersecurity practices. The successful candidate will provide leadership across multiple IAM initiatives, establish testing standards and frameworks, drive automation maturity, and ensure the security, scalability, reliability, and compliance of IAM solutions. The individual will act as a trusted advisor to engineering, architecture, product, and cyber security teams while influencing strategic technology decisions across the IAM ecosystem.

About the Team

The Identity and Access Management (IAM) Program supports end-to-end identity governance, access lifecycle management, authentication, authorization, and privileged access management capabilities for employees, contractors, partners, and enterprise applications across the organization.

Impact

This position resides within the Cyber Security organization and is responsible for establishing the quality engineering vision and testing strategy across IAM platforms. The role will drive test automation, security validation, performance engineering, and quality governance for critical IAM capabilities.

The Principal Engineer will lead complex testing initiatives, influence architecture and design decisions, mentor engineers, and ensure enterprise IAM solutions meet security, operational, regulatory, and business requirements. This individual contributor role partners closely with IAM Product Owners, Enterprise Architecture, Engineering, Operations, and Information Security leadership teams.

Key Deliverables (Duties and Responsibilities)

• Define and drive the enterprise IAM Quality Engineering and Test Automation strategy.
• Hands-on experience on Selenium, building test strategy for large scale platforms like SailPoint, Automation using Python or other scripting languages.
• Establish testing standards, frameworks, tools, governance models, and best practices across IAM programs.
• Lead quality assurance efforts for Identity Governance, Access Management, SSO, Federation, MFA, PAM, and Directory Services initiatives.
• Design and build scalable automated test frameworks leveraging modern programming languages and enterprise automation platforms.
• Drive continuous testing practices integrated with CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps methodologies.
• Define quality gates, release readiness criteria, risk assessments, and production validation processes.
• Provide technical leadership for end-to-end testing across IAM platforms, APIs, workflows, integrations, and cloud services.
• Partner with architecture teams to review solution designs and ensure testability, scalability, resilience, and security requirements are met.
• Lead security testing initiatives including authentication, authorization, privilege escalation, API security, and identity lifecycle validation.
• Establish performance, load, stress, and resilience testing strategies for IAM platforms.
• Mentor and coach engineers on quality engineering, automation practices, and testing methodologies.
• Drive adoption of shift-left testing and quality-by-design principles across IAM delivery teams.
• Collaborate with product, engineering, cyber security, and infrastructure teams to ensure compliance with regulatory and internal security standards.
• Evaluate emerging testing technologies, AI-driven automation capabilities, and industry best practices to improve effectiveness and efficiency.
• Participate in design reviews, code reviews, architecture discussions, and strategic technology planning.
• Develop and report quality metrics, automation coverage, defect trends, and risk indicators to senior leadership.
• Serve as the escalation point for complex testing, integration, and production quality challenges.

• 12+ years of experience in software quality engineering, test automation, or information security engineering.
• 7+ years of experience supporting IAM technologies and identity lifecycle processes.

• Strong experience with SailPoint IdentityIQ and/or SailPoint Identity Security Cloud.
• Expertise in building enterprise-scale test automation frameworks using Java, Python, JavaScript, or TypeScript.
• Strong hands-on experience with Selenium, Rest Assured, Postman, Cucumber, JUnit, TestNG, Playwright, or equivalent frameworks.
• Experience implementing automated testing within CI/CD platforms such as Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or GitLab.
• Experience testing APIs, microservices, event-driven architectures, and cloud-native applications.
• Strong understanding of security testing methodologies and cybersecurity controls.
• Experience building performance and scalability testing frameworks using tools such as JMeter, Gatling, or LoadRunner.
• Experience working in Agile, DevSecOps, and cloud environments.
• Strong understanding of data validation, test data management, and synthetic data generation.
• Knowledge of regulatory and compliance requirements applicable to financial services environments is preferred.
