CNC Programmer (5:00 AM - 3:30 PM, Tues. - Fri.)

Position Description:

The Programmer is responsible for interpreting project blueprints, designing programs, and setting up the lasers to produce the component outlined in the program. The Programmer also must perform test runs and make adjustments until the resulting product meets blueprint specifications.  

Responsibilities:

• Read technical drawings and program/set up machines in accordance with product blueprints.  
• Program, set up, and operate machines to perform production tasks, observe operations to ensure that specifications are met, perform minor preventive machine maintenance/repairs, and notify supervisors when major service is required. 
• Observe machine operation and inspect equipment and materials to detect workpiece defects or machine malfunctions, adjusting machines as necessary and identifying the cause of errors or other problems or defects. 
• Cross-train on all CNC machines. 
• Read and comprehend blueprints, work orders, drawings, and other instructions to determine product specifications, tooling instructions, and material requirements. 
• Obey all company, OSHA, and other state and federal agencies’ safety regulations and work within all safety guidelines. 
• 7S, keep the work area clean and organized. 
• Complete all duties as assigned, while making the most efficient use of time, raw materials, and equipment. 
• Instruct other workers in machine set-up and operation as directed by the Automation Lead. 
• Ability to work 40-50+ hour work weeks, dependent on production needs.  
• Review and collaborate with Engineering to ensure drawings are correct and meet required specifications.  
• Work as a team and communicate effectively with management and all employees. 
• Other miscellaneous duties as may be assigned.

• Ability to discern between the following types of materials:  
• Carbon Hot Rolled Steel/Cold Rolled Steel 
• Aluminum 
• Stainless Steels 
• Knowledge of bending, nesting, and laser cutting software for programming machines. 
• Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
• Strong working knowledge of bend allowances and materials, production processes, quality control, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods. 
• Capable of reading blueprints, technical plans, drawings, and other information and ideas presented in writing. 
• Comfortable using power tools and manual tools. 
• Ability to read measuring tools including protractor and caliper; and scanning instruments preferred.  
• Ability to work individually with little supervision, as well as work as a team and communicate effectively with management and all employees. 
• Knowledge of the English language including the ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend English. 

Education/Experience:

• 1+ years of forklift experience.  
• High school diploma or GED. 
• Minimum of 1-3 years CNC Programming experience.  
• Minimum of 3-5 years’ previous experience in a metal fabrication shop working with similar equipment and materials. 
• 1-3 years of SolidWorks experience.  
• Prefer 1+ years of MIE Trak experience.  
• Additional equipment certification training is preferred. 

Work Environment/Physical Demands:

• Manufacturing environment with intermittent noise and long periods of standing in a warehouse-type physical space, with exposure to noise and dust in hot and cold climates. 
• Ability to lift to 50 pounds. 
• Ability to stand, bend, twist, and kneel. 
• Normal vision (with or without corrective lenses) and normal hearing (with or without corrective hearing aids). 
• Must have good hand and eye coordination. 
• Must wear steel-toed shoes.
