Adavanced Manufacturing Engineer
Your Role
The North American Connection Systems Team has an exciting opportunity for an Advanced Manufacturing Engineer to join our team at the Champion Technical Center in Warren, Ohio. The chosen candidate will work hands-on with the Product and Operations teams to develop products and processes that will make the Automotive sector safer, greener, and more connected.
Key job responsibilities for this role include:
- Develop the manufacturing processes for new products from prototype to serial production
- Design and build tooling and fixturing to enable development projects
- Complete advanced manufacturing projects to improve upon existing methods and procedures
- Incorporate leading edge technology into Aptiv processes and designs
- Document work instructions, lessons learned, and provide project updates to management
- Develop process estimates and contribute to Statement of Work to outline industrialization requirements for communication with Engineering, Plant, and Suppliers
- Interact with suppliers to communicate requirements and drive project timelines
- Utilize data-driven decision making in all engineering decisions
- Ensure compliance with customer specific requirements
Work Environment:
- This role requires a mix of office and on-site work at Aptiv Tech Centers, Manufacturing Facilities and Customer/Supplier Locations
- Full time availability on-site at the Champion Technical Center is required
- Up to 10% travel may be required to support plant interaction, supplier evaluations, and technology investigations
Your Background (Must haves):
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology or similar
- An innate desire to problem solve and drive innovation in products and process
- The ability visualize and understand dynamic processes and component interactions
- Capable of working collaboratively with peers to transform ideas into technical concept drawings, CAD models, and bring designs to life in a lab or production environment.
- Demonstrated proficiency using various CAD/CAM packages (i.e. SolidWorks, Solid Edge, AutoCAD, NX, Mastercam, Trumpf TruTops, etc.)
- 3+ years of experience building/repairing/improving machines or processes in a manufacturing/shop environment.
- 3+ years of experience working with cross-functional teams in a manufacturing environment (i.e. engineering, manufacturing, maintenance, etc.)
- Strong results-orientation and execution characteristics
- Resourcefully innovative and adapts in a rapidly changing environment
- Ability to work effectively with people at all levels in an organization
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with a strong ability to work with a team
Nice to have:
- Experience in Ultrasonic Welding and/or Laser Cutting & Welding Technologies
- Experience with CNC Milling
- Experience in Automated Equipment Design
- Experience in electrical connector component design and/or assembly
- Proficient in Design for Manufacturing (DFM) and conducting Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA)
- Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Office (i.e. Word, Project, Excel, Outlook, Teams, etc.)
- Ability to effectively organize, prioritize and accomplish multiple conflicting tasks, make intelligent, timely decisions and solve problems independently
- Strong presence, poise and persuasiveness to establish a high level of credibility quickly
