Associate Dean of Nursing, Experiential Learning

The Associate Dean of Nursing, Experiential Learning provides strategic and operational leadership for experiential

learning across the College of Nursing's BSN and ELM programs. The position leads the design, implementation,

evaluation, and continuous improvement of clinical, simulation, community, and other practice-based learning

experiences; ensures adequate clinical resources and partnerships; and works with the Dean, associate dean of

nursing academics, program leadership, faculty, staff, and external stakeholders to support student learning,

progression, retention, and successful transition to professional practice. The Associate Dean ensures experiential

learning activities are consistent with the curriculum, applicable to the California Board of Registered Nursing

requirements, university policies, and accreditation expectations.

Job Requirements

• Provide college-wide leadership and strategic direction for experiential learning, including clinical education, simulation, community-based practice, and other supervised practice experiences for BSN and ELM students.
• Develop, implement, and evaluate policies, procedures, and operating standards for experiential learning; ensure faculty, staff, and students comply with applicable regulatory, safety, accreditation, and university requirements.
• Lead the development, maintenance, and evaluation of clinical and community partnerships and affiliation agreements; ensure the College maintains sufficient, high-quality learning sites and experiences to support enrollment and curricular requirements.
• Oversee clinical placement planning, rotation capacity, and assignment processes in collaboration with Program Chairs, Clinical Director, Course Coordinators/Content Experts, faculty, and relevant university staff.
• Coordinate with course and content leaders to align clinical, simulation, and other experiential activities with course outcomes, program outcomes, curriculum objectives, and expected student competencies.
• Partner with the Dean and academic leadership on implementation of the nursing curriculum and evidence-based teaching strategies that connect theoretical learning with clinical and practice experiences.
• Provide leadership for the five California BRN clinical specialty areas identified in the College & experiential learning model: Medical-Surgical, Gerontology, Obstetrics, Pediatrics, and Psychiatric nursing, including faculty qualification and placement considerations.
• Collaborate with the Deans and program leadership in the recruitment, onboarding, development, and evaluation of faculty involved in experiential learning to support clinical competence and regulatory requirements.
• Build and maintain effective relationships with healthcare systems, community organizations, clinical consortiums, andprofessional partners; represent the College in professional and community meetings as appropriate.
• Oversee systems for monitoring student and faculty compliance with clinical requirements, including site readiness, documentation, orientation, safety, and other required prerequisites.
• Collect, analyze, and use experiential learning data to evaluate quality, student outcomes, partner feedback, placement capacity, and continuous improvement priorities.
• Address student concerns related to clinical and experiential learning, promote student success and retention, and collaborate with academic leadership and support services when student progression issues arise.
• Participate in accreditation, regulatory, and program review activities by providing evidence, reports, data, policies, faculty records, clinical agreements, and other documentation relevant to experiential learning.
• Manage or contribute to the experiential learning budget, resources, and operational priorities; make recommendations regarding technology, simulation, clinical resources, and partner development.
• Participate in University governance, faculty activities, committees, and professional development consistent with faculty rank and administrative responsibilities.
• Handle other projects and tasks as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

• Master's or doctoral degree in Nursing from an accredited institution; doctoral degree is preferred.
• Active, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in California.
• Minimum of three (3) years of professional registered nursing experience providing direct patient care.
• Minimum of two (2) years of teaching experience in a registered nursing program at a college or university
• Progressive leadership experience in nursing education, clinical education, academic program operations, or related nursing administration.
• Demonstrated experience with clinical placement coordination, healthcare partnerships, or other practice-based learning operations.
• Knowledge of nursing education regulations, accreditation expectations, student clinical requirements, and quality improvement practices.
• Strong communication, organization, problem-solving, relationship-building, and data-informed decision-making skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Doctoral degree in Nursing (PhD or DNP) or related field, or active enrollment in a doctoral program with a demonstrated plan for completion.
• Progressive academic leadership experience, including supervisory responsibility and prior experience with curriculum, clinical/experiential learning, and development or growth of academic initiatives.
•  Experience supporting CCNE, WSCUC, California BRN, or other nursing accreditation/regulatory processes.
• Experience leading simulation, clinical education, experiential learning, healthcare partnerships, or multi-site placementoperations.
• Certification in nursing education or a related professional certification (e.g., CNE) preferred
• Experience with data analysis, continuous quality improvement, and evidence-based practice in nursing education.
