Description
Leader, Business Analytics and Data Managment Opportunity Summary
The Leader, Business Analytics & Data Management owns W.W. Williams’ enterprise data and analytics function end to end: the data architecture and platform, the enterprise data warehouse and lakehouse, the business intelligence estate, data governance, and the delivery of operational and financial metrics to leaders across the company.
This is a player-coach role that blends hands-on technical depth with executive-level business partnership. You will serve as the primary analytics interface to Finance, the C-suite, and business unit leaders, translating their questions into trusted, governed data products, and you will lead the migration of our reporting estate from Tableau and legacy sources to a unified Power BI and Microsoft Fabric platform. You will report to the Chief Information Officer and sit within the AI & Transformation (AiT) team.
Key Responsibilities
Data Platform & Architecture
- Own the enterprise data architecture, including the Microsoft Fabric / OneLake lakehouse and warehouse, integration patterns, and data modeling standards (medallion and dimensional).
- Design, build, and operate reliable pipelines from ERP/dealer management, CRM, HCM, telephony, e-commerce, and telematics sources into governed, analytics-ready datasets.
- Manage platform capacity, performance, cost, security, and disaster recovery on Azure; set and meet data freshness and availability SLAs.
- Establish engineering practices for the team: source control, CI/CD deployment pipelines, testing, documentation, and environment promotion.
Business Intelligence & Analytics Products
- Set Power BI as the enterprise BI standard and lead the sunset and migration of Tableau and spreadsheet-based reporting with minimal business disruption.
- Build and maintain certified semantic models and enterprise datasets that give the company one definition for revenue, margin, technician utilization, parts fill rate, first-time fix, DSO, and other core metrics.
- Deliver executive reporting on a reliable cadence, including monthly operating reviews and KPI scorecards by branch, business unit, and region.
- Run analytics as a product function: intake and prioritization, roadmap, adoption targets, and retirement of low-value reports.
- Enable self-service analytics through training, office hours, templates, and a curated catalog of trusted content.
Business Partnership & Performance Management
- Act as the primary analytics partner to the CFO and FP&A, aligning data definitions with the close, forecast, and budgeting processes and supporting month-end and board deliverables.
- Partner with the CEO, COO, and business unit presidents to define the operational metrics that matter, instrument them, and drive accountability through visible, trusted data.
- Translate strategic questions from leadership and our private equity sponsor into analyses, models, and dashboards; present findings clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Support the transformation portfolio (system consolidation, customer 360, technician productivity, forecasting) with data models, KPIs, and benefit tracking.
Data Governance, Quality & AI Readiness
- Stand up and lead a pragmatic data governance program: data ownership and stewardship, business glossary and metric definitions, lineage, access control, retention, and privacy.
- Drive master data management for customers, vendors, parts, locations, and technicians across consolidated systems.
- Implement data quality monitoring and remediation with measurable improvement targets.
- Prepare the data foundation for AI and machine learning use cases in partnership with the AiT team, in line with the company’s AI Acceptable Use Policy and governance framework.
Leadership
- Build, lead, and develop a team of data engineers, BI developers, and analysts; manage vendor and contractor resources and the analytics budget.
- Champion a data-driven culture across the company and raise analytics literacy among leaders and front-line teams.
- Communicate roadmap, progress, risks, and value delivered to the CIO and executive leadership.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Science, Finance, Business Analytics, Engineering, or a related field.
- 7–10 years of progressive experience in data and analytics, including at least 3 years leading a team or function and owning an enterprise BI or data platform.
- Expert-level Power BI: semantic modeling, DAX, row-level security, deployment pipelines, capacity management, and enterprise content governance.
- Working proficiency in Tableau sufficient to support, assess, and migrate an existing estate.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure data services and Microsoft Fabric (or equivalent modern cloud data platforms such as Synapse, Databricks, or Snowflake), including lakehouse/warehouse design and pipeline orchestration.
- Strong SQL and data modeling skills; experience with Python or PySpark for data engineering and analysis.
- Demonstrated success partnering with Finance and executive leadership on KPI definition, management reporting, and performance analytics.
- Experience establishing data governance, master data, and data quality practices in a multi-system environment.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex analysis to executives and to influence without direct authority.
Preferred
- MBA or master’s degree in Analytics, Finance, or a related discipline.
- Microsoft certifications such as Fabric Analytics Engineer (DP-600), Fabric Data Engineer (DP-700), Power BI Data Analyst (PL-300), or Azure Data Engineer (DP-203).
- Experience in distribution, dealer/service, industrial, transportation, or other multi-branch operating businesses; familiarity with dealer management or ERP systems such as Karmak Fusion.
- Experience in a private equity–backed company, including board and sponsor reporting and value-creation tracking.
- Exposure to Microsoft Purview, Azure OpenAI / AI Foundry, Copilot for Power BI, and machine learning workflows.
- Experience leading a BI platform consolidation or migration (e.g., Tableau to Power BI).
