Project Manager – Level III / Level IV

 

Our client is a leading engineering and project delivery organisation providing integrated solutions to customers across the dredging, offshore, mining and defence industries. The organisation combines engineering expertise, project management, procurement, fabrication, installation and commissioning capabilities to deliver complex projects safely, on time, within budget and to the required quality standards.

 

The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the full project lifecycle, from proposal and project setup through to design, engineering, procurement, fabrication, installation, commissioning and final handover. The role will lead multidisciplinary project teams and manage project scope, cost, schedule, quality, risk and client relationships. The position will primarily be based at the Waterside offices, with occasional work at the Atlas Park workshop, depending on project requirements.

 

Responsibilities:

Project Planning & Setup

• Assist the Project Engineering Manager with the development of the operational department year plan.
• Set up projects during the enquiry and award stages and appoint the relevant project teams.
• Develop and manage project schedules, defining the sequence of activities, milestones and deliverables.
• Establish project work packages and ensure all requirements are in place for successful execution.
• Schedule and conduct project kick-off meetings.
• Document project scope, deliverables and client acceptance criteria.

 

Project Management & Leadership

• Manage allocated projects from initiation through to completion and handover.
• Provide leadership, direction and guidance to multidisciplinary project teams.
• Manage project resources and ensure activities are delivered within agreed time, cost and quality constraints.
• Coordinate activities across engineering, procurement, fabrication, assembly, installation and commissioning.
• Resolve project issues and escalate potential deviations from approved project constraints to the Project Engineering Manager.

 

Cost & Commercial Management

• Establish and maintain project budgets based on contractual requirements and the final scope of supply.
• Monitor and control project expenditure to ensure delivery within the approved budget.
• Manage project change requests, ensuring financial and schedule implications are assessed and documented.
• Obtain client approval for scope of supply, pricing, delivery schedules and commercial conditions.
• Manage commercial requirements throughout the project lifecycle.

 

Engineering, Procurement & Execution

• Manage the project design and engineering process through to completion.
• Manage all project procurement activities.
• Communicate with suppliers regarding technical matters, procurement requirements and expediting.
• Manage fabrication, assembly and delivery phases.
• Manage installation and commissioning activities through to project takeover and final handover.

 

Quality, Risk, Health & Safety

• Define project quality targets, standards, assurance and control procedures.
• Develop and maintain the project Quality Plan and ensure appropriate quality controls are implemented.
• Identify, assess and manage project risks and mitigation plans.
• Compile the project HS&E Plan and ensure applicable health, safety and environmental requirements are maintained throughout the project.
• Ensure compliance with the organisation's configuration management system.

 

 

Client & Stakeholder Management

• Establish and maintain clear communication channels between the project team, client, internal departments and external specialists.
• Obtain client acceptance of project deliverables.
• Maintain strong client relationships throughout the project lifecycle.
• Ensure client requirements and acceptance criteria are clearly understood and achieved.

 

Project Proposal Phase

• Manage project proposal activities and support the transition from enquiry to project execution.
• Ensure project requirements, scope, resources, commercial conditions and execution requirements are clearly defined.

 

Requirements:

• BTech, BSc or BEng degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Mechatronic Engineering.
• Project Management qualification.
• 10–12 years relevant project management experience.
• Registered or eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with ECSA.
• Experience within the Mining, Oil & Gas, Mineral Processing or Heavy Engineering sectors.
• Proven experience managing complex engineering projects from proposal through to commissioning and handover.
• Computer literacy, including MS Word, Excel and MS Project.
• Own reliable transportation.
• Willingness to travel as required by projects.
• Willingness to work demanding and flexible hours, including after-hours work when required to meet project schedules.
