Purpose of the role

To provide senior leadership across a strategically important portfolio within the Financial Institutions Group, encompassing UK Fintech Coverage, UK Specialist Finance and Securitisation Coverage, and Global Platforms businesses encompassing: Escrow, Global SSA and ECA origination and execution, and Crown Dependencies.

The role will be responsible for driving the strategic development, commercial performance, and effective risk management of these businesses, bringing together deep sector expertise, client coverage and the broader capabilities of Barclays to grow and deepen relationships.

This role sits within the International Corporate Bank (ICB) – a key division within our Global Treasury Coverage (GTC) business in the Investment Bank.

As a senior leader within FIG, the Managing Director will play an important role in developing the future direction of the franchise and its leadership bench, with the breadth and potential to assume broader leadership responsibilities over time.

The role requires partnership with other leaders across the FIG franchise – which includes Correspondent Banking, Broker Dealers, Insurance and Funds and Asset Managers.

Accountabilities

• Provide strategic leadership across the Paytech, Specialist Finance and Platforms portfolio, setting clear priorities for growth, client coverage and franchise development
• Provide senior leadership and oversight of the UK Fintech franchise, partnering closely with the UK Head of Fintech and global Fintech leadership team to support the continued development of this strategically important sector
• Provide senior oversight of the wider mandate, comprising Global Platforms businesses encompassing: Escrow, Global SSA and ECA origination and execution, and Crown Dependencies
• Develop and deepen strategic client relationships, understanding clients' financial objectives, business models, challenges and risk profiles and identifying opportunities to deliver the full breadth of Barclays capabilities
• Maintain a deep understanding of the Fintech, Paytech and Specialist Finance sectors, including evolving industry dynamics, regulation, technology, competitive trends and associated opportunities and risks
• Drive collaboration across GTC, Global Transaction Banking (GTB), Wholesale Lending (WL) and the wider Barclays franchise; including our Capital Markets, Risk Management and Investment Banking franchises – including M&A Advisory and Equity Capital Markets (ECM). Connecting sector expertise and client relationships with relevant product capabilities to create broader and higher-value relationships
• Set and execute commercial strategy for the portfolio, identifying opportunities to grow income, improve client penetration and strengthen Barclays' competitive position
• Develop customised solutions addressing clients' strategic and financial objectives, drawing on Barclays' broad range of banking, financing, transaction banking and risk management capabilities
• Act as a senior representative of Barclays with clients, industry participants and other external stakeholders, building the firm's profile and credibility across the sectors covered
• Provide strategic direction and senior judgement on complex client and business matters, including appropriate assessment and management of financial, conduct, regulatory and operational risks
• Maintain an effective and robust control environment across the businesses within the mandate, ensuring that growth is delivered within Barclays' risk appetite and governance framework
• Build leadership capability and succession within the franchise, developing senior talent, creating a strong leadership bench and fostering a high-performance and inclusive culture
• Partner effectively with senior stakeholders across Coverage, Product, Risk, Compliance and other functions, influencing outcomes and ensuring alignment across organisational boundaries
• Monitor commercial performance, client engagement, risk and other relevant indicators, using these insights to refine priorities and drive execution

• Exercise management authority to make significant / complex business and strategic decisions that impact the Barclays Group, business division or function.
• Negotiate with and influence stakeholders at a senior level both internally and externally and foster growth for Barclays business.
• Mandated as the business division/ functional spokesperson or representative to external bodies and shapes the public image of Barclays.
• Demonstrate exceptional knowledge of how business divisions and functions integrate with the Group to achieve the overall business objectives alongside industry theories and practices within own discipline.
• Maintain broad and comprehensive functional expertise and significant product knowledge.
• Accountable for the control and governance agenda of the business division / function.
• Focus on the external environment, regulators, or advocacy groups to both monitor and influence on behalf of Barclays.
