Data Science Consultant – Pharma R&D

The Data Science Consultant – Pharma R&D you will be a key member of our dynamic team, empowered to have a significant impact on the continuous growth of our business. You will work with our partners in biopharma across the entire drug R&D value chain, achieving their vision of AI-driven digitalized precision medicine and CMC. This includes using your scientific and technical knowledge to solve real-world scientific challenges.

This position reports to the Lead Scientific Account Management and is part of Genedata Profiler, located in Tokyo.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

• Play a key role in Genedata Profiler® and Genedata Vico™ implementation projects, as a scientific expert providing consulting, business process analysis, and solution design.
• Scope and execute customer Data Science projects delivering results and presentations that meet the high standards our clients expect.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, serving as their primary contact for scientific and technical matters.
• Partner with Business Account Management to qualify Profiler and Vico opportunities, shape proposals and value stories, support workshops and demonstrations, and expand successful engagements into broader account adoption.
• Bring structured customer evidence back to Product Management, helping distinguish current product capabilities from customer-specific implementation needs and informing reusable Profiler and Vico use cases, roadmap priorities and positioning.

The essential requirements of the job include:

• PhD or Master’s degree with industry experience in bioinformatics, data science, life sciences, or a closely related scientific discipline.
• Strong experience in biopharma R&D, ideally in translational sciences, working with multi-omics, biomarkers, and clinical data, or CMC analytical, formulation or upstream/downstream process development.
• Proven customer-facing experience, including workshop facilitation, project scoping, stakeholder coordination, and scientific consulting.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to translate complex scientific concepts into clear customer value.
• Native Japanese or JLPT N1-level Japanese, with business-level English.

Travel, Motor Vehicle Record & Physical/Environment Requirements:

• Occasional travel to Genedata Headquarters in Europe.
• Occasional travel to the United States.
• Regular travel to customer sites within Japan.

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

• Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python or R.
• Experience in developing AI/ML solutions in biopharma R&D processes, lab automation, or CMC.
• Experience identifying and developing new business opportunities in collaboration with commercial teams.
