Laser Manager

About the Role
Mazak Sheet Metal is seeking an experienced and driven Laser Manager to oversee all laser cutting operations within our production facility. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing personnel, equipment, production schedules, quality standards, and continuous improvement initiatives to ensure maximum efficiency, productivity, and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the daily operations of the laser cutting department.
- Supervise, train, and develop a team of laser operators and support staff.
- Ensure production targets, delivery schedules, and quality standards are consistently achieved.
- Monitor machine performance and coordinate preventative maintenance activities.
- Optimize machine utilization, material yield, and workflow efficiencies.
- Review and prioritize production schedules to meet customer demand and business objectives.
- Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Investigate and resolve production issues, quality concerns, and equipment downtime.
- Work closely with Engineering, Programming, Quality, and Production Planning teams to support manufacturing requirements.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing principles.
- Monitor departmental KPIs and prepare regular performance reports.
- Manage consumables, tooling, and material requirements to maintain operational continuity.
- Support new product introductions and process improvements.
Skills and Experience
Essential
- Proven experience managing a laser cutting or sheet metal manufacturing operation.
- Strong knowledge of fibre laser cutting technology and sheet metal fabrication processes.
- Experience with Mazak laser systems and related software is highly desirable.
- Strong leadership and people management skills.
- Ability to analyze production data and implement effective solutions.
- Excellent planning, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.
- Good understanding of quality management systems and continuous improvement methodologies.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and manufacturing ERP systems.
Desirable
- Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or Continuous Improvement certification.
- HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Engineering, Manufacturing, or a related discipline.
- Experience within a high-volume sheet metal manufacturing environment.
