Department Overview
TD Asset Management Inc. ("TDAM"), a member of TD Bank Group, is a leading North American investment manager offering progressive investment solutions to both institutional and individual investors. As of December 31, 2023 TDAM and its affiliates manage over CDN$410 billion in assets on behalf of pension, insurance, endowment/foundation and corporate clients, as well as high-net worth clients and retail mutual funds, across both active fundamental and quantitative-based solutions, private debts and alternative investments including real estate, infrastructure.

A passion or demonstrated interest in markets/economics/current events is critical to success:The Intern will support the team with some or all of the following activities.
Work with one of the following teams within TDAM - Fundamental Equities Research, Fixed Income or Asset Liability Management, Asset Allocation, Alternatives , or Investment Risk Management.
Build and maintain analytics to help facilitate portfolio decision making, data analysis or financial analysis to help understand and recommend investments or to better understand the macro-economic environment
Help run and support mission critical reporting used by the portfolio managers and attend and participate in team meetings and investment discussions.
Validate data to ensure the integrity of the data and information
Support projects focused on the ongoing improvement of our processes
Undertake projects touching on strategy, marketing, business and product development, portfolio management, finance, risk, governance, client service, operations and trading
Skills that the student must have (specific technical, and other skills)
Organizational skills with the ability to prioritize, multi-task and maintain attention to detail
Good foundation in business acumen, capital markets, problem solving skills and analytical capabilities
Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Excel, PowerPoint and Word)
Strong verbal and written presentation skills
Accuracy and attention to detail are essential
Highly motivated individual with the willingness and flexibility to take on different initiatives
Ability to operate within specialty software programs (e.g. Bloomberg, Factset, Thomson Reuters or Capital IQ etc.)
Must be able to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate across teams to research fulsome solutions
Bilingualism (French and English) is an asset
Skills that are not required, but would be an asset (specific technical, and other skills)
Microsoft Access, Python/SQL/Coding skills, financial modelling
VBA and SQL
Co-op experience in investment research, real estate, public and private securities analysis, risk management

Asset Allocation:
The TD Asset Allocation team manages multi-asset class investment solutions for clients across retail, high net worth and institutional channels. We build portfolios with mutual fund, ETF, real asset, and derivative capabilities, investing across asset classes including Equities, Fixed Income, Hybrid Securities, Foreign Exchange, Commodities, Real Estate, and Infrastructure Assets. The Asset Allocation investment process includes a thorough analysis of the global macroeconomic environment and trends in asset class dynamics, fund manager due diligence and bottom-up fundamental analysis to allocate to asset classes, funds, and direct index securities. The Funds can dynamically shift between asset classes and market, including the use of derivatives to modify the return and risk profile. Our goal is to help our clients achieve their long-term investment goals through the use of diversified investment solutions.
Fixed Income:
The Fixed Income team at TD Asset Management is one of the largest in Canada. The team manages a whole range of active fixed income solutions for both retail and institutional clients, requiring investment excellence both from a bottom up (credit research) security selection point of view and a top down (macro risk) asset allocation point of view. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with Credit Analysts and Portfolio Managers in an investment environment that is engaging, dynamic and collaborative and focused on delivering the best outcomes for our clients.
Asset Liability Management:
The Asset Liability Management team manages approximately $50 billion in investments. Work alongside a close-knit team that designs and manages investment solutions for TDAM's liability-focused clients.
Fundamental Equities:
The Fundamental Equities Team is focused on deep fundamental research, using our experience and expertise to identify attractive investment opportunities for clients. The Team uses a combination of fundamental qualitative and quantitative analysis to identify companies with strong fundamentals, attractive valuations, and sustainable competitive advantage. We believe in active management and constantly monitor our holdings to ensure they meet our strict investment criteria. Our goal is to help clients achieve their financial objectives.
Alternative Investments:
The Alternative Investment team manages over $40bn in AUM in private market strategies at TD Asset Management. We manage direct investments in Canadian Real Estate, Global Real Estate, Infrastructure, Commercial Mortgages and Private Debt. The team includes investment management teams for each asset class, as well as client portfolio management, finance and portfolio and funds management teams to support all aspects of the investment process within Alternative Investments. We make direct investments doing bottom-up analysis on individual assets as well as top-down analysis on markets and regions as well as supporting the ongoing management of the investment funds with activities such as valuations, cash flow management, finance and accounting and client support within private markets. With a focus on income and income growth we build high quality portfolios of private assets to serve our clients.
Trading:
The Trading Team facilitates trade execution across multiple asset classes on behalf of the Active, Passive, Quantitative and Private Client portfolio management strategies managed by TDAM. These include global equity, futures, options, money market, fixed income and foreign exchange.
