Work Shift
Various (United States of America)Wellstar MCG is seeking a compassionate and skilled PRN Neonatal Nurse Practitioner to join our dynamic team. The Neonatal Nurse Practitioner will work collaboratively with neonatologists, pediatricians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to provide exceptional care for neonates in our state-of-the-art NICU. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced NNP seeking flexible scheduling while contributing to the health and development of newborns within a nationally recognized healthcare system.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care
Provide direct, high-quality care to neonates in the NICU, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and management of critically ill newborns and preterm infants.
Collaboration
Work closely with neonatologists, pediatricians, nursing staff, and other healthcare professionals to ensure a multidisciplinary approach to patient care.
Procedural Support
Assist in neonatal procedures such as intubation, central line insertion, lumbar punctures, and other NICU-related procedures, as needed.
Rounds and Documentation
Conduct patient rounds, including progress notes, assessments, and care plans for neonates in the NICU, ensuring timely and accurate documentation in the electronic medical record (EMR).
Education & Training
Provide education and support to families of neonates, addressing concerns and providing guidance on infant care, development, and health issues.
Quality Improvement
Participate in quality improvement initiatives and adhere to clinical protocols and evidence-based practices to promote optimal patient outcomes.
On-Call Availability
Provide coverage for scheduled PRN shifts, including weekends, holidays, nights, and urgent staffing needs as available and agreed upon.
Qualifications
Education
Master's Degree in Nursing (MSN) with a focus in Neonatal Nursing or related specialty.
Licensing
Current licensure as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner in the State of Georgia or eligibility to obtain Georgia licensure.
Certification
Board Certification as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP).
Experience
Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit or related neonatal care setting preferred.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong clinical and procedural skills in neonatology
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Knowledge of NICU-specific protocols and evidence-based practices
- Proficiency in electronic medical record (EMR) systems
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in a Level III or Level IV NICU
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
- BLS certification
Work Schedule
This is a PRN (as needed) position. Providers will be scheduled based on departmental staffing needs and individual availability. PRN Neonatal Nurse Practitioners may work 12-hour or 24-hour shifts, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays.
The Level IV NICU has an average daily census of approximately 40 patients with an average of 3 new admissions per day. APPs typically manage 8-12 patients per shift while collaborating with the neonatal care team.
