Description

Work under the supervision of the Parks Manager to provide a safe and aesthetically pleasing environment in the City’s parks, trails, athletic facilities and to communicate effectively and courteously with the public and private sectors about special projects and /or maintenance related concerns in the provision of the highest level of service possible to all customers. Oversee the performance goals of the Mowing and Landscape crews.
  • Responsible for the supervision, task assignment, and goal planning for the Mowing Crew Leader and the Landscape Crew Leader.
  • Oversee the administration of all mowing and tree contracts. Assists Parks Manager in the preparation of all contract specifications.
  • Assist with budget and CIP requests for mowing and landscape crews.
  • Assist with special projects related to park development.
  • Assist mowing and landscaping crew leads with setting schedules to ensure areas of highest sensitivity are prioritized.
  • Serve as liaison between various departments as needed.
  • Ensure that safety procedures are up to date in the standard operating procedures and are being followed.
  • Conduct regular inspections of areas of responsibility to ensure that they are properly maintained.
  • Solicit bids and order all materials and products necessary for maintenance operations.
  • Identify and address various mowing and landscape problems, and provide solutions that are cost effective and efficient.
  • Maintain the inventory for large and small equipment parts and chemicals.
  • Assist the Park Manager in the annual employee evaluation process and budget preparation.
  • Read maps and plans and layout construction projects; prepare bid specifications as needed.
  • Prepare monthly and annual reports documenting work performed and cost summaries for crews.   
  • Oversee herbicide and pesticide application to all City owned property.
  • Work in conjunction with the Special Events Coordinator to schedule/implement maintenance related assignments for City/City-sponsored events.
  • Assist with irrigation planning and repair when needed.
  • Work extended hours including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • May be required to perform other department duties as assigned.
Our ideal candidate will possess the following:
  • Ability to work efficiently with coworkers, follow instructions, and adhere to safety policies
  • Ability to supervise and train staff 
  • Ability to work in inclement weather conditions
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 80 pounds
  • Ability to proficiently operate a computer using Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, Power Bi, Bluebeam, Adobe Acrobat, etc. 
  • Ability to serve as work order management system administrator using Cityworks or similar software
  • Good organizational skills, creativity, initiative, and a desire to learn
  • Knowledge of large scale mowing, landscaping, and irrigation operations
  • Knowledge of operating and performing preventative maintenance on various types of tractors, field groomers, mowers, and other equipment needed for maintenance operations
Required:
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid Texas Driver’s License
  • Completion of an 8 hour TDA approved chemical safety class for application of herbicides/pesticides under the supervision of a licensed chemical applicator within 6 months of hire, unless currently licensed under TDA
  • Any combination of two relevant certifications/licenses, or ability to obtain within one year of employment, including, but not limited to:
    1. Irrigation tech license or higher
    2. ISA certification
    3. TDA chemical applicator license
    4. CDL – Class A
Preferred:
2+ year(s) supervisory experience
