About the Team
At AXIS, predictable and well-governed cloud spend is essential to scaling our data and AI ambitions responsibly. As DataOps & AI FinOps Lead, you will bring cost-to-value visibility to our data and AI estate—giving leaders the insight they need to control compute spend, optimise cost-to-performance and keep consumption predictable. You will lead the FinOps practice across the AXIS Data Platform, Databricks, and AI workloads—partnering closely with Engineering, SRE, and Architecture to embed cost discipline into how we build, deploy, and operate.
How does this role contribute to our collective success?
This role is central to our mission to:
Bring cost-to-value visibility to data and AI by automating consumption tracking, monitoring, and reporting—giving leaders confidence in where every compute dollar is spent.
Optimise cost-to-performance across Databricks, the AXIS Data Platform, and AI workloads—ensuring our investments scale efficiently as ADP grows.
Embed FinOps discipline into engineering and delivery practices through automation, release efficiency, and intentional performance management.
You’ll sit within the Data Operations team, working closely with Engineering, SRE, Architecture, and Finance to ensure our data and AI compute costs remain transparent, controlled, and aligned with business value.
What will you be doing in this role?
FinOps Framework Ownership: Establish and own the FinOps framework across data and AI, including chargeback/showback models, budgeting, and forecasting practices.
Consumption Reporting & Governance: Give requirements for dashboard development and reporting that provide leaders with clear visibility into compute consumption, cost trends, and optimisation opportunities.
Cloud Cost Optimisation: Drive cost management and optimisation initiatives across Azure, Databricks, and AI services in alignment with enterprise FinOps practices.
Cross-Functional Partnership: Collaborate with Engineering, SRE, Architecture, Finance, and BTS to embed cost-conscious decision-making into platform design and delivery.
Cost Monitoring & Automation: Partner with Engineering to automate consumption tracking and cost monitoring across data and AI compute, with early-warning thresholds to prevent uncontrolled growth.
AI Observability: Partner with BTS SRE to collaboratively design and operate a monitoring framework for deployed AI solutions—including model performance tracking, uptime, and token consumption—ensuring transparency and accountability for all production AI.
Cost-to-Performance Tuning: Partner with Databricks development teams to optimise compute cost against performance as the AXIS Data Platform scales.
Job Performance Optimisation: Drive automation and release efficiency to cut manual effort, reduce waste, and improve pipeline reliability—being intentional with processing performance.
